  • What do you do with all those points?

    Hi,

I'm pretty new to DRI. I bought 11,500 from the developer (sigh) and recently bought 5,000 florida trust points resale.

However, I was only able to use about 9,000 points in 2008. That consists of 19 nights, which is pretty much all the vacation time I have in a year.

I think that 9,000 is atypically low and in a normal year I might be able to use 15,000 ... maybe 20,000 at most.

But some people here seem to have points in the hundreds of thousands. My question is 'what do you do with them all?'

    Is it:

    1. genuinely vacationing 8-10-14 weeks a year
    2. renting the weeks out as some sort of business
    3. going for super deluxe accommodations in peak weeks just because you can even though it may not be all that reasonable and something you wouldn't pay up for if you had to spend actual cash
    4. something else

I interested because I have the itch to buy more points but I can't really envision how I would use them after reaching a pretty low threshold.

    Thanks!

Bank leftover for next year then stay at more places or a nicer place.

    1. If you like to travel yes.
    2. Renting out is only if you want to do the work.
    3. I try to stay at the best accommodations that DRI has at that that time.
    4. You can always give it to family or someone you like.

You buy more points if you can pay the maintenance fees.

We are looking at potentially renting out to friends and family at reasonable prices - most folks we know are not wealthy, work hard and rarely see a good vacation than I have had good fortune of having, especially owning TS for over 10 yrs! I feel good about giving them a vacation to remember and doing so without spending a fortunre. If opportunity comes up, I may rent one week per year at a little higher prices just to help offset some of the costs (MF) of owning multiple weeks.

We stumbled on this the other day - check out the Presidential Suites at Kaanapali Beach Club and Point at P. Amazing what things 'cost'. So, if you have a bunch of extra points to get rid of, go for it!

          S0 many points

I agree with Winger in post#3. With our recent e-bay points and polo towers purchases we should jump from 20500 to over 50k. We have been happy bottom feeders, content with specials & under 59day reservations including Club Select. It will be nice later this year to be able to get a second unit for some less fortunate of the wifes siblings.

I may be able to bring myself to book one bedrooms before 59 days & upgrade to two bedroom at no additional cost at some of the harder to get locations. But not the Presidential Suite- much too cheap for that!

Sorry a little off topic, but:
upgrade at no additional cost at some of the harder to get locations.... if it's hard to get location, if you can get a 1 BD, what is chances a 2BD will be available?

              Winger;
While have not looked recently , ones such as high summer weeks at San Luis Bay on are likely not available at under 59 days but would be if booked earlier.

thanks. we are going there first time next week - taking the family for 4 days on spring break!!! We are really looking fwd to it, not b/c of the resort, but b/c we need time off from work and this is our first use of pts for the CLUB : )

since I am new to the Club and sounds like you have experience with this resort, is it easy to book a summer week or two there if done 6-8 months out? (NOT 4th of July week)
