  • questions about mixing club and csv points

    Hi,

    1. With the CSV points, if you are booking farther out than 59 days is it a requirement to book at least 7 days? Some of the eBay ads show 7 days for 59+ and 3 days for 31+. This would be a difference from club points, where you can book less than a week 59+ days out?

    2. If you have club points, and you also have csv points, how does DRI keep track? Do you have one login for diamondresorts.com or do you have two? How do you keep DRI straight on which points you're using (i.e., if booking to Sedona Summit you would want them to pull from the csv total and not the club total).

I own 11,500 club points and recently bought 5000 csv points which is still closing. I'm just trying to get a mental picture for how things work once everything closes.

    Thanks!

From my experience those eBay listings you're referring to are erroneous, I've often asked them where they get that info and I never get an answer.

I don't have a definite answer for your second question, my guess is that you either have two completelt separate accounts or an overarching login with separate sub accounts. My understanding is that you cannot mix those points to book a reservation, you'd have to book contiguous reservations from each 'account' and string them together if that's your intent.

I'm sure you'll fill us in when you close.

Have you considered rolling your CSV points into your CLUB membership, so that it's all part of club? There is at least a $2995 fee to do this, but it might be worth considering.

I've considered rolling the CSV points into the club membership, but I'm not seeing the benefit yet in my particular circumstances.

Now that our kids are bit older but still in school for the next ten years, our vacation pattern is settling down to

5-7 days at Lake Tahoe in January (CSV points)
10-12 days at Hawaii or some other place on 59 day availability spring break (club points).

Since I'm limited to three weeks vacation a year, and since Tahoe is going to be a fixture, conversion doesn't seem to make sense yet.

But I would like to use the CSV points to book 5 day trips for 5250 points, as opposed to 7 day trips for 10500 points. I could buy another 6000 points to settle that issue, but it'll take some time to persuade my wife.

Thanks for the info, and I will try to remember to tell what I know when I close ...

As I was in the process of purchasing and then converting a points package to Club, for several months I had two active sub-accounts under my initial log-on. I had to select from "Platinum Elite Member" and "Valued Club Member" or something like that, after I signed on each time. Some time after the points package and other deeds were converted to Club, the 2nd account went away.

My expereince is the same as what Spence said, these two sub-accounts cannot be used in a combined manner, unless and until the one is converted to Club also.

As I understand it, CSV points can also be used to obtain less than or more than full week 7-day reservations, in the same way as Club points, limited of course to only CSV destinations.

That's terrific! The 7-day limit was going to put a crimp in my plans and I wondered how DRI kept track of what was what. Thanks very much for the info. Now back to sitting and waiting for the points to close ...

I have deeded property and CVS points, the deeded property I still get 12 months priority and get the property for high season points any time of the year or less and the CVS point as spelled out in the book and the computer figures this out automatically. I hope this answer your question.

Don't forget you can borrow from next years points if you are short.
