  • Question about buy back my timeshare

I just got a letter from Diamond Resorts offering to buy back my timeshare in Maui at the former Embassy Vacation Resort. Does anyone have experience with this sort of offer? What does this usually mean?

Somewhere here someone spoke about the offer.... my memory says it was for $3K - $4K. They turn around and put it into points system and sell it again as 'new' for $25K to $40K depending on what 'view' they took you for. A great racket if you ask me.

Another thought that's occured to be is I wonder if Mr. C needs a certain number of weeks back in inventory to take control of the HOA/BOD again.

That is ALWAYS an ulterior motive. That is essentially what they're doing at any resort in the 'Trust,' even though the Trustee is supposed to act in the interest of the owners of the Trust.... who is the one biggest owner in the Trust?

Marriott (and other timeshare management companies, as well) does the same thing with their "Right of First Refusal." The only difference is, with Diamond in this instance, it is optional. With Marriott, it's mandatory.

Thanks for the feedback, can you tell us what 'view' you own? There's a thread over there
Diamond Resorts offers buyback for Kaanapali Beach Resort - Timeshare Users Group Online Community Forums
that has quotes of $9000 for a Scenic View and $16000 for Deluxe Ocean View; do you have Ocean View??

These are increases from what has been indicated months ago. From what I can tell, Diamond will churn these and sell them for four times what they paid these people.

That would have been my guess based on the other offers recently seen OY.

I have an offer on the table from Diamond on my Vegas Polo Club 1 br-close to what I paid 2 years ago privately. I was concerned that someone was phishing Diamond owners-any clues as to whether it's legit or not? Seems authentic enough.

From what I can tell here and there, if you've called them at 888-250-6135 or emailed them at devbuyback@diamondresorts.com it is completely legit. They seem to be buying at round about 25% of the cost of NEW points. Gotta remember that the marketing cost for them on the NEW points is tremendous.

So they'll resell for points then. I wonder if I can haggle them up? I never used either week in 2 years but have banked them with II...that won't affect their value with Diamond I imagine.

From what I've heard, they have a set, unwavering offer. They put the unit into the TRUST and then they can sell the points as NEW, a wonderful model!

It could also give DRI complete control of the HOA/BOD and allow them to do what they want without owner imput if they so choose. It would streamline the decision making process.
