  • DRI Travel vs. Cruise Voucher?

    Hello all,

Without going into details, suffice to say that I am being offered a choice of either a $1000 DRI Travel Credit or a Cruise Voucher. The only info I was told about the Cruise Voucher is that it's for "... an inside cabin for a 7-day cruise for two on the major cruise lines."

Reading up here, I've seen mention of $1200 cruise vouchers. Does anyone know if there are other vouchers that DRI has/issues? I looked at a couple of cruise lines' websites and have seen inside cabins for rates ranging from $479 per person and up, depending on starting port and week. (I've used Miami as the origin port for comparison purposes.) Most seem to run about 650-800 during spring months.

I presume that taxes, port fees, fuel surcharges, etc are not covered by the voucher. Sorting this out is like banging my head against a wall.

I'd appreciate any advice, suggestions, tales of experience (either positive or negative) in using cruise vouchers issued by DRI. Or should I go with the specific $1000 DRI Travel credit? What are folks' experience using DRI Travel Credits? Is it an easy experience or do they "nickel and dime" you with assorted fees and surcharges?

    Thanks for your input!

Newbie to This Forum Needs Help with DRI Travel

    Hi!

I realize that a first post like mine above may look like a Company shill trying to chum the waters. But that's not the case. I REALLY am a DRI "THEclub" member trying to get the benefit of other's experience before I have to respond to DRI with my decision.

If anyone has any experience with DRI's Travel Department, that would also be helpful. I waited on hold for nearly half an hour Saturday to speak to someone. Is that a typical hold time?

When you do talk to one of their agents, are they informed? Are they helpful? Can you understand them through their accents? (I've had many calls to Interval where the agent had such a thick accent and such little understanding of English that I couldn't get an answer to my questions.)

I'd REALLY appreciate folks sharing their experience (both good and bad) with either DRI's Travel Department or their Cruise Vouchers.

    Thanks!

Even as a first post, your OP had none of the earmarks that anyone here would call you names. the problem is that probably no one has experience with what you're asking.

I think DRI may have it's own travel or maybe it's outsourced somewhere, when it was Sunterra and I used it once I was talking to the travel agents at Vacation Internationale (aka Sunterra Pacific once upon a time).
