With the recent "free" gold membership with Interval and other things, seems like thier trying to treat everyone as a sort of "elite" member.
Plus, blatant signage for "elite" members does tend to make others who do not have such status feel a bit bitter. I'm sure they get told in thier sales pitch that they will always get treated as some sort of priority member rather than cattle at a hotel. Having a sign that says "elite check in" like at regular hotels doesn't seem to solidify that point.
