  • Diamond Resorts Internation in Tahoe - should I purchase?

I am being offered 3,000 pts for $11K (membership in The Club is included). They have also approved me being able to take my timeshare week in Vacation Village Bonneventure (2 BR lockoff) and depositing it in the club to give me another 5,500 points a year, brining my total to 8,500 points. There is a $119 fee to deposit this week into The Club yearly. The maintenance fee is $629 and my ownership will be at the Lake Tahoe Vacation Resort and San Luis Inn (they have joint ownership into these properties). Should i be purchasing? What is the quality of the resorts within the DRI family? Are exchanges easy, and is availability good? I like the fact that there are no exchange fees within DRI (even if we use only 2 or 3 days). Also, they have not really allocated me any particular week or unit for these 3,000 points even at the home resort? Is that OK?

You have been offered the California Trust. the $629 you quote is not the maintenance fee alone it is the maintenance fee plus the Club annual fee plus probably some sort of base fee for the Trust. It would be interesting to have those figures if they happened to have given them to you.

You need to read every post in this DRI forum and most of your questions and reservations will be answered or affirmed.

Spence, thanks a ton for your response. Yes, I have been busily reading the various posts. The key reason we are considering this purchase is the ability to deposit our other week into The Club (it represents 5,500 points). Have people experienced any problems doing this? It seems that I should not buy directly from the developer but go through resale (since the price is lower). What are the disadvantages of going through resale - need to pay for The Club, need to see fi they will approve transfer, ...?

I really don't know what their criteria is for accepting your other property into Club Select if you don't have the guarantee from buying retail. If you have a winter week at VV@B I would think it would happen. They try to keep everyone so mixed up on resale procedures that you ignore it and buy retail, so your approach depends on your tolerance for uncertainty.
