Time for an introduction from someone neutral -

Spence is THE AUTHORITY on Sunterra/Diamond Resorts. His experience comes from the school of hard knocks and from being in from close to the beginning with Sunterra, a charter member of "The Club," and being a large weeks & points package owner.

He has helped most of us unselfishly through thick and thin and put up with all kinds of crap from many people unnecessarily.

In regards to anything Diamond Resorts, we look to him for the final word, period.

Spence is an owner, in no way affiliated with Diamond, although most of us would like to see him as our representative on any or all their various boards.

I would commend him to anyone, unconditionally!

Thanks dw, can you enlighten me on what a "large week" and "points package" member is???
As I have said in some of my responses this is my first experience with Sunterra/Diamond and I am still absorbing as much as I can.

A person who owns a significant amount of points; an individual with a serious personal investment or stake. . .

I will take part of the blame for possibly not being persistent when I did my calling and that never owning a Diamond property before I wasn't informed about THE Club, but also point being only receiving half of the information is as bad as false information. I would have thought that possibly one of the two (DRI or II) would have been forthcoming with the information that there was a dual affiliation based on what you wanted to pay for.
Also you have me curious what is your back ground in the TS game and what (if any) is your affiliation with DRI? Since you seem to be well versed in most aspects and seem to give a lot of input to most of the forums. Finally since you are so informed do you know the ins and outs of THE Club?? Such as pricing, membership requirements, do's and dont's etc?
If you read all the posts in this forum you would see that I am quite critical of many of DRI and the former company's sales practices and other policies. I agree with you that it shouldn't be a 'game' that the consumer has to play and that things like resales and re-entry into THE club should be more straightforward from the consumer viewpoint. I do understand what you are saying and I do commiserate with you. I am a 'Founding Member' of what was Club Sunterra and is now THE Club, I joined in 1999 when it first started because I learned the hard way that Red =/= Red and my Sunterra fixed week 52 traded like dog do do. I paid $1995 to join the Club and later saw it go for as low as $1164. I've learned lots of other things about Sunterra and now DRI the hard way and I try to share those experiences here. Welcome to TS4Ms and the DRI forum.

I have owned other timeshares, too, and have learned from others on this forum and other forums but in many cases I learned just from experience, some of which has been good, some of which has not been good.
... not enough time for all the timeshares ®

Yes, they probably do know (or wish) that such policies will 'kill sales', but the sales they want to kill are those not purchased through the DRI sales network! Now this is not 'the pot calling the kettle black' because the vast majority of my ownership was obtained on the resale market as well. However, it would seem that someone (me included) who pays so little for the property would not mind paying a little more to put themselves into a situation that allows the investment to be maximized - the total cost is still far less then buying 'developer' property. I did it and am very happy with the great flexibility THE Club provides.

              Mickey,

I feel bad that you want to belong to II and can't. Part of your problem was that the owner, who sold it to you, may have been a DRI "Club" member and therefore could trade in II. He may not have known that as a resale buyer you couldn't.

But your situation is mirrored by many TS owners.

We have for years owned a TS in Whistler BC which was in II. The management sold the TS to Shell Vacations who trade only with RCI. The owners could not trade with RCI unless they converted their ownership to Shell ( for a huge fee!! about twice DRI fee)
For someone buying a resale at the resort it could be very confusing to discover that only if you bought a "converted to shell" week would you be able to use RCI. And if you called Shell they likely would tell you that the resort trades in RCI.
