  • How do I sell a timeshare???

Hi. I am brand new to this site and I have some questions about how to sell my timeshare. We currently have 6000 points with Diamond Resorts International, (previously Sunterra). My wife and I bought a home in the Mountains of Arizona so we don't do much travelling anymore. I'd like to sell this unit. How do we sell it?

One thing for sure is DO NOT get envolved with any person or company that requires an up front fee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All they do is take your money.

There are several places to list for a nominal fee. Our site is one of those. There is also Timeshare Rentals, Timeshare Resales, Timeshare Ratings, and Timeshare Reviews - RedWeek.com and some others that I can't think of the name of.
I would wait until some of our Diamond experts come along and answer. There are some resorts that may buy back your unit, but I'm not sure if Diamond is one of them.

Please be aware that if you paid developer's price for your unit, you will not receive anywhere near what you paid for it. If that is the expectation, maybe you could rent it out instead of selling it.

Just to give you a rule of thumb . . . a points package is generally worth around 20 cents a point. Getting any more than 20 cents is rare, less is not uncommon.

Therefore, understand that you're talking $1200 or so total, and then less any commission to sell.

There's also bidshares.com and craigslist.org. I've sold one on each site. They are also free. On bidshares, you can watch to see how many people have looked at your ad. Be prepared for MANY lookers without an offer.

You could use eBay as well. You might want to monitor a few sales at eBay: Timeshares for Sale just to see what they are going for and how people pitch them. Most important, pick a closing service you are comfortable with.

What exactly do you own, are you a deeded member of the club, or in the Trust?

                timeshare for sale

I own a deeded property at Sunterra at The Ridge in Sedona. It is a floting week. I have 6000 points which can be used at resorts around the world.

Which means that when you go to sell, your buyer gets a deeded property at Sunterra at The Ridge in Sedona, a floating week. They do not get your points without paying to re-join THE Club.
... not enough time for all the timeshares ®

Thank you Spence and dwmatz for bringing some sense of decency to this thread... I LOVE to see it when sellers are immediately told to sell it on their own via sites like Redweek and eBay- when they have no real idea of how the sale or transfer process will actually go!

No offense onebigal- but you are in for a long, hard road on this one! You won't find a broker willing to help you without some type of upfront fee- because your resale value alone isn't enough to cover their commission. PLEASE try to learn all you can- check out Spence's stickies and pick his brain as much as possible.. You can call owner services and ask for a deedback, but I doubt it will be much help. Diamond is going after reacquisitions- but primarily for the Hawaii and Vegas locations...

I'll eagerly await the next thread from the poor guy who buys this on eBay for about $200.- and then has a fit that the points didn't transfer!

I recently saw a 2 bedroom at The Ridge go for over 3000 on ebay. I am assuming the OP owns a 1 bedroom and if he really wants out, he should not have a problem getting at least 1000 for the unit.

                        Thanks

Thanks so much for all the input from you folks. I'll keep trying to find ways to sell my property. I know that there are some who have been pretty lucky getting a buyer. I also know about scams. I got caught in one (dummy) last year but my bank was able to get my money back. I'll be more wary from now on. Thanks again, Big Al
