DRI Cruise option or what do you get for a nickel per point
I realize simplicity means different things to different people but, I was disconnected twice (hung up on by the computer) and recieved the fast busy signal 4 times before the "elite" phone system finally worked and I heard a live person's voice on the other end of the phone.
OK, now that I've vented a little of my frustration. We are considering taking a cruise next year. I thought I'd see what the DRI plan for cruise exchange was. I guess this part does fit the simplicity billing.
Essentially, you shop for the cruise you want. You call DRI (assuming you can actually get through to the cruise desk). You book the cruise through them (paying the required deposit for the cruise line). DRI then reimburses you in cash for your points at the rate of 5 cents per point. In my case that would be $1,325 for 26,500 points. Plus, you get to pay the DRI exchange fee. That knocks the value down a little further.
Why this has been a big secrete I don't know. Seems as if DRI could take the mystery out of things by just printing the value of the points. Of course that would hold them to that value and, when they further de-valued the points it would tick off the membership. OK, so publishing values isn't a good idea if you think you'll have to reduce the value later on.
But for those of you who have ever wondered or wanted to know, there it is. Your points are worth 5 cents each if you want to use them towards a cruise. You'll have to book the cruise through them, pay money up front and then wait for your reimbursement to do this.
