  • Introducing the newest Resort Destinations

Got an email introducing new (affiliates, I am pretty certain) resorts in the DRI system...except they do not yet show up as valid resorts when trying the lookup availability at DRI.com.

Nice to see some Californian resorts ! Like in Napa and Carlsbad and Coronado. The only issue/concern is maybe extreme limited availabilities - which is not too nice. Sort of like putting the carrot out there but not being able to fulfill - I really hope I am wrong.

Here's the listing from the email:

    West and Mountains
    California
    Carlsbad
    • Carlsbad Seapointe Resort
    Coronado
    • Coronado Beach Resort
    Napa
    • RiverPointe Napa Valley
    Olympic Valley
    • Red Wolf Lodge at Squaw Valley
    South Lake Tahoe
    • Lodge at Lake Tahoe
    Washington
    Leavenworth
    • Blackbird Lodge

    Hawaii
    Kauai
    • Alii Kai Resort

    New England
    Massachusetts
    Yarmouth
    • Cove at Yarmouth
    • Riverview
    New Hampshire
    Lincoln
    • Village of Loon Mountain

      New Resorts

Give Me A Break!! We'll Be Lucky If They Have More Than A Dozen Units Per Resort, But I'm Betting Less.

I'm wondering if DRI has taken over the management contract at these resorts or if the there some sort of recipricol agreement to exchange between these resorts and DRI resorts. If they've assumed the management of these resorts then I would that that, as time goes on, they would be able to get units by having current owners join DRI's THE Club. If that's the case it may take a few years before a significant amount of units become available to current club members. If it's a reciprico agreement then my bet is there won't be enough units to really make a big impression. But it would look good on paper.

I, like most members, am not for something that looks good on paper. We want some substance - meaning more resorts to call 'our own' for internal system trades. Sadly, if the Clock Tower or any of the affiliate Hawaiian resorts are any indication of what these new resorts will turn out to be, then it's all fluff. I tried several times booking into these other established affiliates and have not had much luck finding availability. Only time will tell on this one. I asked a DRI rep on the phone today flat out how many units at each of these resorts DRI has 'usage rights' for CLUB members - he did not know. He recommended that I called any of the new resorts directly. This is not a good sign when a CLUB rep asks a customer/member to do legwork which a member would expect a rep to have already been trained on or can dig up by himself, not visa-versa.

Few to no units, very many points, just my experience.
... not enough time for all the timeshares ®

Does DRI have any plans to build new resorts or already have construction in the works?

A few months back they were putting out feelers about a new resort in Vegas that would be a part of the Hard Rock hotel expansion. Personally, I'm not overwhelmed by yet another Vegas resort and especially one that's not on the strip.

I own at several of the Cape Cod, MA resorts

Just an FYI: The Cove at Yarmouth and Riverview Resort are managed by VRI, and they do an excellent job. The Cove is gorgeous, having gone through a $3 million renovation this year. But it has been sold out for years, so I'm assuming that DRI is either renting repo'd units or perhaps bought some weeks. Riverview Resort is small (I think 60 units) and is a converted motel in a decent location, so don't expect too much from it.

Probably a computer glitch but when I went to the online resort directory page to see the photo gallery of these resorts (I like gorgeous), neither resort shows up when I click on Massachusetts. They are in the drop down menu on the reservation page.
