  • Interval without buying into The Club?

    Hello!
First, let me say that this is a fantastic forum, I've already spent quite a bit of time using the search function, going to sites like Redweek and EBay to get an idea of rates, etc.

    What I'd like clarification on:

Question 1 - If I buy an annual TS (2bed/2bath 52-week floating) @ Point at Poipu in the resale market, do I have to join DRI's The Club to be able to access / exchange / participate on the Interval network?

Question 2a/b -(a) If I buy the above TS and decide to join the Club, how many annual points does it provide me. I'm trying to do a point to dollar conversion. (b) Also, is one of the side benefits of going from a simple, deeded week to the club's point system the potential to get double the 'value' if we were lucky enough to book in the 59-day or less window, where they charge a reduced point rate?

Question 3 - Just to confirm, if I buy this as a resale, I basically shell out $3k to DRI to join the Club and I'm basically as whole as if I had purchased it from the salesperson today?

For background, my wife and I are following the basic premise that we want to purchase a TS somewhere that we'd like to use. Hawaii, and this island in particular is quite nice. However, we are also interested in being able to try out units on the Interval exchange system, and as it was explained to us today the points from the Club exchange at a 1:1 on Interval (or maybe that's just DRI creating an exchange rate - not sure), so presumably we'd be able to exchange 1 week here for 1 week at an equivalent resort, etc.

Thanks in advance, and apologies if I asked anything that's been answered all to frequently.

I don't think that Point at Poipu is affiliated with II, it is THE Club tht is affiliated. If you owned the week you could trade with RCI or any independent that would take it.

You'd have to get some nice person to send you the point chart and do the math. Depends on the view, add up the points for every week and divide by 52.

In therory, correct. In practice, it is often not easy to get the base rate.

      Thanks for the response.

So the fact that it's listed on II's site doesn't mean a property owner there can get into the system outside of THE Club?

There are a few resorts that are in the directory that do not exchange with II unless you are a club member. I am not sure about Point at Poipu, the best way to find that out would be to call their sales office and ask.

There are more than a few resorts in the II directory that appear there because of Club affiliation and NOT resort affiliation.
