  • Ways to Get Best Value for Points?

I am new on this forum and have a question. Our family is in 'The Club' and have 3,000 points. We have a weekly timeshare with another group, so did not feel we needed extra points right now. The main reason we wanted the points and to be with Diamond was the ability to do as little as 2 night stays for weekend getaways for the family during the school year.

When we purchased, the salesman said that if we reserve online, we would pay the going rate in points. If we wanted point discounts/specials, we would need to call in and ask for specials. We are planning on staying at Powhatan (Williamsburg, VA).

Any thoughts on how and when to get the best value for our points?

Is it true that you get better deals by calling in?

Any other suggestions (besides reading this forum, which I have been doing)?

    Thanks!

The best deals are usually for less than 60 days out (1/2 the normal point value) but you can't rely on getting availability exactly where and when you want it. If you have vacation window and don't have firm plans yet, you can search the less than 60 time periods and pick up a cheap week somewhere.

Besides specials, there is also Club Select. These are non-Diamond resorts deposited in Diamond by members to get more "the Club" points for the year. These are usually reasonable point values or you can buy the weeks for cash.

No, it is generally not true, same rates unless there's a computer glitch that doesn't show the discounts and then a call is required to override.

Weekend nights cost 6/10s of the weekly rate so even at half price they can be costly.

3000 points doesn't get you very far but Williamsburg usually has lots of availability and lots of 50% off except for summer/holidays.

Cash price for members on Club select is quite reasonable.
