Just finished two weeks at Powhatan and Greensprings - hosted a family reunion with units at both locations.
We were blessed to be assigned recently renovated units at both locations.
The big wow was the new renovations at Greensprings. Forty-eight 4BR units in buildings 1, 2, 3, and 4 by the entrance gate are apparently now finished. Gone are the pastel blue overly modern interiors. In is a brown and tan color scheme and the new white sheets & duvets. Fabulous is all I can say. Our guests loved it. In all fairness, all those at Powhatan were equally happy with the 2007 renovated units.
Much work has been done at both locations - landscaping, building repairs, flowers, cleaning, new pool furniture, new towels, and the start of the bedding rollout (new sheets and duvets). Both sites have improved significantly from 2007.
Had a good long talk with the GM at Powhatan. Work is already in progress on the sample renovations - one of each type of unit, with all work to be done by year end, and the units to be open for review by owners. It will be an interesting annual meeting this year. I suspect we'll be approving an entirely new renovation program to begin in 2009, one much more extensive then ever before.
As far as a comparison of the two goes . . . I personally think the new Greensprings renovations are as good or better than the brand new Powhatan Deluxe units (even if they don't have individual hot tubs). Our guests and my family still rate Powhatan higher because of the large pool complex. Powhatan is much bigger and spread across really four different pools. I think Powhatan's Adult Pool is the real kicker though. At Greensprings, everyone has to use one pool which occasionally can get packed and noisy. The family thinks the spread at Powhatan is great! Personally, I'm now totally sold on Greensprings since the new renovations and pool repairs. I couldn't find a single thing to fault no matter how hard I might try!
In any event, kudos to Diamond Resorts for the multi-faceted improvements to both resorts. They're now back on top of the ratings in my books - gold stars, crowns, pineapples, whatever!
