  • Anyone used points for an airline ticket

I am debating whether or not to use my excess 2008 points for a roundtrip ticket to Maui. I am planning on going next summer (July or Aug 2009) and right now ticket prices are about 800 per person on cheaptickets. If I use my points, the total cost would be 642.00 The club rep said there were no restrictions on the ticket, I would get a certificate for american airlines and have up to one year to use it. Has anyone used this option before? Were the flights you wanted available? Any other fine print i am missing?
    Thanks

Yes, the fine print on the back of the certificate.

Find the right person at DRI and have them fax you a copy of the fine print.

I think that it will only apply to a certain fare category.

please post if you have any luck finding anyone at dri who can fax/email u the terms and conditions.

this was a frusturating experience two months ago when i got the runaround between dri and american airlines (my choice carrier). i must have spoken to over five dri reps and 3 aa reps. In the end i gave up. It felt hopeless dealing with so many freaking idiots (mostly in the dri dept that handles the points-to-airlines use).

i would bet there is more to it but the rep doesnt know because 1) he's never used one himself 2) he's poorly trained in the area 3) they dont do many of these so they dont get complaints. 4) some or all of the above.

i asked over 5 dri reps in the dept that handles points-for-airline tix, none had ever used one before.

July 31st was the last day to use points for the tickets. I decided against getting one, and just saved the 7500 points to use in 09

So you're going to make me get one to see what the back side says? When I have used what I believe are similar certificates, I had to then pay a $30 ticketing fee and all the taxes!

Yes. If you wouldn't mind, sir. In the name of 'science', and you could sure use a ticket somewhere, right?

You can now order the flight certficates online & the points needed are now lower. 6000 instead of 7500 forwithin contiguous U.S. & Canada, for example.

Not for $750 worth of points or even richardrs $600 worth. I can go coast to coast right now for as little as $207 RT DC to SFO, SEA, SAN
