  • II Exchange-where is 2009 points?

I went to the II screen to place an ongoing search request. The only choice I see is:

    2008 (Points) Points

which I have no more (I used up the piggy bank!)

Where is the "2009 (Points)" choice ?

It doesn't matter. Just place the request using the 2008 points icon because they will use 2009 points to fill the request.

Correct. In fact, you may ask that DRI use any year you like although 2008 points may only be used up until the end of October. If you were making a 2009 reservation you could ask that they use 2008 or 2009 points, this is a manual intervention that you'd have to call about.

So that I understand, even if I place the online request, if I had points from 2008 and 2009 available, I still have to call DRI to tell them which year's points to use? Do I do this upfront or when the unit is confirmed (since we do not know which resort we are going to get confirmed for nor which size unit)?

In my case, since I have no more 2008 points, I assume I do not have to talk to any DRI rep about this.

On this note, can I take partial points? Say I have 1500 pts left for 2008, can I call DRI and say for a 5500 pt request, take 1500 from my 2008 and the remaining from 2009?

LOL, just when I thought I got most of this stuff figured out, the II piece comes along.

I really don't know what their general rule is, I had them take future year points away for a future year reservation and I left a standing order that I always want to use the earliest points possible according to the rule deadlines.

Yes, you can use up the rest of your 2008 points then start on your 2009 BUT you don't use any points until a reservation is made so if you sit around on your xxx and they make the reservation on 2Nov for 2009, you can't use 2008 points because of the deadline.

Here's a scenario from my transaction made today.

Back in June I saved my remaining 2008 points into 2009 using the online feature. Yesterday I placed a request at II for an exchange using the 2008 points icon, paying my $139 exchange fee. Just an hour ago, a rep called to confirm an exact match. She used up my 2008 points and some 2009 points to make the booking. Since the exchange is for next year, I do not have to pay my Club fees ahead. If I was borrowing from next year for use this year, I would have to pay the 2009 fees.

            Clear as mud?

ETA: It appears to me that one should always forward remaining points before the August(I think) deadline. By that time most requests for the current year would have been filled or probably won't be!

Yes, clear as mud. I did the same as well. The only risk is if there is no match before Dec 31 and the OP has not saved the 2008 points, those points will be gone.

The key is save the points now.
