  • new to TS: Deal or Not a deal, advice needed

I am still on cooling-off period, need expert advice. Just bought 8500 pts at 23k (1bd ocean view, gold member (The Club), in Kaanapali Beach Club Maui, with 1085 MF (which too high). Please let me know what do you think?.
    Thanks in advance.

I'd carefully read all the posts on this individual forum and make your own decision. When you say you are a Gold Member, what are you talking about?
    • Gold Elite is 30,000 points which you don't have.
    • A DRI member gets Gold Membership in II which does have benefits but is not that big a deal

      Rescind Now!

My advice would be to rescind, study about timesharing and then buy resale. When you rescind, do it buy the instructions in your owners material. If it is not spelled out, send a certified letter via UPS with return card for verification. With the price of airfare to HI, I am sure there will be good deal to be had on ebay and other sites.

Thanks for the advice. If I negotiate what would be the right price?

1I'm not sure, maybe other that own points can help. My only Diamond Resort are two deeded floating (1 -52) weeks that I purchased from Holiday Group at Lake Tahoe Vacation Resort when it was Embassy.

A general rule of thumb passed on to me is to value points at 20 cents on the dollar - therefore $4250.

Since, as I hear, there's reasonable availability at Kaanapali Beach Club from The Club, I certainly wouldn't pay more than that, but that's me. Everyone has different needs and priorities.

I having great difficulty typing after shoulder surgery today.

Have you done your homework yet? If not, rescind! Then do your homework and decide. A "deal" will always be there.

Things I wish I knew before I bought retail from a developer:
              1. how cheap one can buy resales and how readily available they are!
              2. how hard it is to "rent" your timeshare and get enough to even cover your maint fees.
              3. the difference between deeded and trust owners (thankfully I lucked out on that one and have a deed).

              Good luck!

8500 points for 23k sounds a good price from the developer. Of course, you can get something much cheaper from resale.

That's about par for the course $3/pt, but I have seen developer prices all over the fairway, $2 - $4/pt with the higher ones usually for the HI Trust.
