  • Short Stays with II

DRI offers short stays via II.

This morning, I searched and found the offer again too good to be true.

For example, Marriott's Sabal Palms 2 bedroom for 6 nights from November 8 to 14 costs 2,200 points while a regular week requires 6,500 points.

Does anyone have any experience? Am I missing something?

    Thanks.

Short stays have been discussed before and it's always good to re-visit these options. Sounds to me like their software isn't operating properly as I've always seen Short Stays to be valued at a representative fraction of a week.

DRI/II also has some multiple location weeks. If you search II exchanges with DRI points in Tucson you should pull up an Arizona Adventure week which includes 2 nights in Tucson, 2 in Payson, and 3 in Sedona. I don't know if these are part of the DRI short stays or are available II-wide but they would make using II to set up a touring vacation a lot more practical. I would like to find a way to pull just these multiple location weeks up to see if its worth planning a touring trip around them. Has anyone seen any others?

On your exchange page, under the tabs, there are links that say "view your units" and "deposit/extend a week". Right next to those two is a lighter blue link that says "short stays".

When you click on the EXCHANGE Tab
            the top line reads
            • View Your Units
            • Deposit/Extend A Week
            • Short Stays
Click on the Short Stays and proceed.

It's only lighter blue because YOU have clicked on it before.

The points seemed very reasonable, For comparison I looked at a DRI resort that would cost me 2250 points for 3 nights, and the II was only 825 points for the short stay. But when it comes down to the 59 day mark and DRI makes it 1125 points, it would be more cost affective to book through DRI. I wonder if II reduces the points by half at the 59 day marker also. It would be hard to believe that they would change the room to only 400+ points. Does anyone know?
                    Thanks

The point chart doesn't change (did you see the link for the chart?), I've checked dates 1 week out and 4 months out, still the same rate. And the $75 seems to be the same no matter a 3 day or 5 day stay.

The same chart that Julieab wants to know if you've seen says that there is a discount at 59days. According to the chart my stay should have been 1500 but it was 750, ymmv. It alludes to categorization but the resorts I was looking at had different weekly rates but the short stay rates were the same.

Days Studio 1 Bedroom 2 Bedroom 3 Bedroom
                        Sunday - Thursday 300 500 550 600
                        Friday - Saturday 900 1500 1650 1800

Resorts are categorized on the basis of destinations, quality, facilities, and demand. Short Stay reservations made within 59 days of travel will have a 50 percent Pointsaver Discount to the SunOptions values shown above, and from time-to-time, for selected destinations and time periods outside of 59-days. Points values are subject to change. Confirmation is subject to verification of points availability.

The majority of Short Stay exchange inventory will be available in the system for stays within 30 days or less from today; however, there will be times when availability could appear for stays more than 30 days from today. Inventory is always changing so please check back often.

Basically, II is taking inventory that is in extremis, either under 30 days or lots of excess and letting it be split to make something out of it.

I will have to wait until the beginning of next month (59 days from my expected checkin) and see what it does to the quote of 825 for 3 nights in a 2 bedroom. I did not see the chart but will have to check it out now! OK, it is already giving me the 50% off, it says the room should be 550 in points per night, but even though my check in date is not until Nov 3, it is still discounted. I have noticed this happens even on the DRI online booking system. I checked the xxxxxxxx resort the other day for November and it was also already giving me the 50% off. Wonder Why?
                            Thanks

Don't know anything about xxxxxxx resort but their specials often discount further out than 59 days when they have excess inventory that needs to be moved/used. For example:
