4 round trip tickets to Europe won't cost more than $4000--and if you shop you can do it for less. You can easily get a week in Spain by bidding on the surplus on Airline Tickets, Cheap Hotels, Vacation Packages & Travel Deals. Spain is an incredibly easy trade. The weeks go on Skyauction for $199 (which goes to RCI) plus the bid. The bid is often less than $50.00--sometimes much less. You've been told that the points you are getting aren't worth anything. You've been told that if you want "special" incentives, you can take a tour at another resort in a year. It isn't a good deal!

And don't forget the exit package.....I forget what they call it.....my friends bought it at the end of the sales tour in Maui (against our advice) for $1,200 or so and they got 2 AA $500 RT ticket vouchers with it. The vouchers fine print has basically made them worthless so they cannot use those (since airfares went up with jet fuel) and they have been kicking themselves ever since. Foolish and against all good advice. We told them to immediately return the exit package and get their money back....we went on the tour the same time they did. They continued to try to justify it to themselves and to us what a great deal it was.....yeah right. But hey....they got to make monthly payments on it instead of paying it all up front when they could not afford it...that was a good deal too right?....
So now they have a $1200 white elephant expiring at the end of the year....they may try to use it this fall in Tahoe (one can get weeks in Tahoe's mud season for a couple hundred or less). They are good Friends and are ashamed of themselves for getting caught up in the 'good deal'.
If you have $11k burning a hole in your pocket.....go ahead....make your sales person's day. They will love you for it and tell you what a great deal you negotiated. You won't hear it from most of us."If a Nation expects to be ignorant and free in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be.... If we are to guard against ignorance and remain free, it is the responsibility of every American to be informed."
-- Thomas Jefferson to Col. Yancey, 1816

Originally posted by eglon999They really emphasized Club Select as a benefit when I went through the timeshare presentation this week. While I agree that this is a benefit that has value, for my current vacation habits I decided it was not worth paying developer prices for. I had a few minutes to review the most recent list of Club Select offerings. Some of the DRI experts can chime in if I am wrong, but it appeared that the most inventory and lowest points usage was for dates coming up in the next couple of months -- September and October. I only saw a few options in March 2009 and I also noticed that a lot more points were needed for most of the available weeks in 2009.
Buying resale takes more effort, research, and time but you may be able to get the same or similar timeshare vacations for much less $$ than the $11000 that you were planning on spending. Good luck and have fun with the challenge of learning about timesharing.... not enough time for all the timeshares ®

The End
Well,
I talked with the manager today, and he told me that he could not meet my requests. He said that he had already caught some trouble for offering me the two round trip tickets to Europe, and there was no way he could offer me two more.
He also stated that the company would not allow him to put into writing that they would allow me to add resale points within a year. He said that someone did that once, and it got posted all over the web, and people started taking advantage of it to the detriment to their sales. He stated that the only way I could use resale points in The Club was to add them at a later purchase after I was already an owner.
He did however offer me two more weeks of vacation with II, but I politelyfully declined. He sounded upset because they had mistakenly already closed escrow on the property, but it is not my fault that they did not run the closing after I had properly faxed my cancellation in last week.
He kept stressing that if I bought resale the points would be pretty useless unless I was already an owner in The Club. But I had made my mind up to stand firm, because $10,500 is a lot of money, and I can find much better things to do with it. At this point, I will probably look into renting timeshare weeks in the future, and maybe one day after my wife and I have discovered better our vaction habbits, I will buy a timeshare.
I appreciate all of your help. This has been very educational, and I look forward to learning more in the future. This forum and all of yall are a valuable resource for which I am very grateful. Thanks for everything.

NEED HELP FAST- Blue Green Timeshare- Backing out of deal during "escrow"
Hi there all,
This is my first post so I hope you will help me.
We purchased a Bluegreen timeshare with 3000 points every other year with 3000 bonus points each year for the first 2 years. The cost was $7,000 direc t from bluegreen resorts, Florida.
The salesman said that he would take the closing costs up front as a deposit and that he would open escrow for 45 days, upon which a balance of about $800 would be due to close escrow.
The escrow should be closing in mid August, however as I have read here on this forum, it appears that perhaps this is not a true "escrow" and we didn't really purchase "Real estate" either, as they had lead us to believe.
Can anyone advise? In a true escrow on a home, you can back out of the deal during escrow at anytime, although you might lose any deposit you put up.
Can I still get out of this deal, since the escrow has not closed and therefore the deal has not actually been completed?
Please post your response her and PM me, as I will not log in here very often.
I noticed a recent Attorney General settlement with bluegreen in another state that perhaps can be used as leverage in this situation.
(Any sleazey timeshare salesmen, please fell free not to reply to me)
Thanks,
CaliGuy

Caliguy,
You posted this in a DRI thread, so you might not get any attention from those who know Bluegreen.
I don't know anything about escrow myself, but the timing you describe makes it sound like you'd be past the normal rescission period.
If you CAN rescind, I would do it immediately as you didn't get a good deal. If Bluegreen is right for you, you can definitely do better. I wonder from the name Caliguy if you live in California...and if you do, I would really question whether Bluegreen is the best fit for you.
I would suggest you repost in the bluegreen thread and see if any of the Bluegreen experts can help you regarding the escrow / rescission question.
