  • Leftovers...

What do any of you do with leftover points that you can't send forward and are too few to reserve units.

I am talking small amounts like:
    25
    50
    100
    etc.

Too bad DRI doesn't have an onsite usage for things you normally pay like a movie rental - 5pts and so on...

If you were asking this question after October 31st then you'd have some quick vacation to take in the current year.

Right now (prior to August 31st) you can save half your annual allotment points into next year. Come October 31st you can save 25% of your annual allotment, that doesn't mean that if you saved 50% today you could save another 25%!!!

An option to get rid of odd points that you can't save any time prior to October 31st is to book an II exchange for any time in the future. As long as you do this prior to October 31st you can use current year points, if you don't have enough because all you have left is that 25, 50, 100, etc. then you can use all of this years and the balance from next years.

I was told, by a sales rep, that any left over points could be applied to Maint.Fees. I have not check if they will take only small amounts of points or if you have to pay all MFs with points or if you can/could use a combo of poinots and money to pay them?
And would it be worth it to use 10, 20, 50 or 100 points to pay a part of the MFs? if allowed to do so? I just have never checked with DRI if we can do that. Has anyone done it this way? And if so are the points worth as little cash as they are when used for some of the other uses, like airfare and cruises? I was almost surprised that we get so little cash per point. Honestly I don't have a good idea how much I expected to get per point, but I kinda remember it was under 25 cents a point? And depended on how they were used and what they were used for?

25cents c'mon get real. The DRUSC Trust MF is 8cents so guess what, they aren't paying you. The MF conversion is 5cents and that as good as it gets.

There are deadlines that you need to meet for these conversions based on your elite level. You can't just use what's left over at the end of the year because the deadlines will have passed.

Ok, so hope springs on the value of points. I really didn't have any idea what they were worth, and don't really want to think about it as I don't think that using points for anything other then staying at a resort or trading into a different companies TS is worth it, at least not for us. And if they are really worth pennies on the dollar as your post says I just want to go and cry. But we didn't buy into this to use the points to pay fees, or fly. I would like the option of using the points if I had leftovers for something else, but I don't want to lose a ton of money on the points by doing so... But that is why I try and save them befor the time deadlines.

My post doesn't say anything about pennies on the dollar but 8cents in MFs vs 5cents in 'benefits' is not good.

              Spence,

Just an update. Near the end of September, we booked a stay in February. The points came out of next year and the few points we had left over in this year were not used.

A reservation in THE Club for 2009 uses 2009 points. To use your 'leftover' 2008 points you needed to have 'saved' them into next year.

An Interval reservation acts a little differently... before 31 October you may use current year points for a reservation in future years, but I think you need to tell them what points you want to use.

You have until 31 October to save up to 25% of your annual allotment of points into next year, but you may not do this if you have already saved 25% or more previously this year.
