I wanted to share some information that I found interesting when I met with DRI sales at the WBurg Sales Center last week. They mentioned that DRI was in the middle of three acquisitions. They could not say until I mentioned it about BlueGreen. The press releases on this make it the number one easiest pick of the list.

The next two I did not find until after searching this site. They are Raintree and Vacation Internationale. Would there be any others that would be in the mix???

Of course, they said there is no guarantee that these would go through but that made them feel that it would help their sales prospects...

Yesterday it was only "two" at the Williamsburg Sales Center. Anything you heard is pure speculation beyond BlueGreen. Vacation Internationale is not a publicly owned company and is not up for sale like a public company is. Do you know the history of VI and DRI's predecessor Sunterra? I seriously doubt that anything is happening there. Do you know what is presently going on in Mazatlan between DRI and VI?

They weren't saying who the targets were, until I mentioned Bluegreen and Raintree. The sales staff was saying the Raintree was a done deal until I challenged them on that. Then they checked with the Regional Manager who said that Raintree and DRI are checking each other out. The inventory swap between them is part of the process of checking each other out.

I think it's extremely unlikely that DRI would acquire VI. Not after VI struggled as hard as they did to reassert it's independence.

I concur with your assessment about not divulging the target until I mentioned it. BlueGreen was the only one that I could remember at the time.

I guess if BG goes thru then the EAST Coasters will make out on the deal. Only time will tell.

If there is a third acquisition in the mix, Grand Pacific could be a nice-sized morsel with complementary locations. Specifically, DRI right now has nothing in coastal southern California. Grand Pacific would instantly give DRI a very strong SoCal position.

When I asked what DRI was going to do with the land they fenced off in Mazatlan, he had absolutely no idea what I was talking about. They don't know anything.

I think 16 is what Raintree has if you exclude a couple of resorts where they simply have inventory swap arrangement.

I talked about the current RT arrangement and the Sales Manager was not familiar with how minuscule it really is, I guess if he doesn't know then he can 'honestly' hype it in a sales presentation.

The whole sales world operates on a "tell them only what they want to know" basis; maybe that extends to updating managers on current developments.

One of the first lessons in sales training is that when you are talking about your product, only tell the prospects information they are interested in hearing. Your product could have the most wonderful warranty in the business, but if the customer's big concern is safety, all of the time you spend talking about warranty is time that you are not addressing the customer's concern. Worse, the customer begins to tune the sales person out and soon begins to think that the sales person isn't paying attention to them as a person. Pretty soon the sale walks out the door.

So people who have been successful in sales are often pretty ingrained with the notion that if someone doesn't ask, you don't bring it up. Instead after answering a question you find out what the next question is. If there aren't any more questions you've done what you needed to do.

Obviously, when those people get into managerial positions where it is important to provide more comprehensive overviews, that ingrained skill can become a problem as associates come away from meetings without all of the perspective needed.
