  • Short-notice booking and downgrading units

    Two questions
    1) what is the shortest notice DRI can book a stay? I swear I did a next day booking back in memorial day or some other holiday recently, today the reps says it's 2-day notice, minimum. Anyone?

    2) If a resort only has a two bedroom (that's a lockoff), I read somewhere that DRI can break it down into the one bedroom and studio if you need. The DRI rep today stated she never heard of such a thing. Anyone?

    Don't know #2.

Last year in Willaimsburg, I would like to extend my holiday, so tried to book a two bedroom for 4 days later, but the machine rejected me. I don't remember exactly but the machine said like 7 days advance booking. I didn't bother calling the customer service.

      As far as number 1 . . .

With the online system, 7 days in advance.

On the phone with a rep, I've done two days, never tried one day.

At the resort itself, I've done the day of.

I have had several different reps tell me different things. One rep allowed me to book one day in advance, that was for sedona Az this summer. Other reps have not allowed me to do this. I have no personal experience but have also heard that they will break up a 2bd lock off to to give you the 1bd or the studio.

I've done next day but the norm is two. If it's next day they have to call the resort to confirm while they're making the reservation.

The last iteration of online software would let you book up to 1 day prior, to do it you put iin search for 7 days out with flexible dates and it would return the sooner ones, won't do it anymore.

Normally easy but not instantaneous. Rep must put a request in to inventory and it takes 48+/- hours. Last time I was told the same as you and I got them to give me to a rep who knew what I was talking about, it was done in 4 hours.

            1) spence, thats what happened in memorial weekend for us, i called on a friday (while on the elliptical) and the rep volunteered to call the resort for a saturday check-in. awesome service

            2) how did you 'persuade' the rep to find someone who would split the unit for you?

It's not magic, the first rep said it couldn't be done, I said it could - please transfer me to someone who can help me, and I didn't take no for an answer.

spence. when was the last time you did the unit downgrade? did you write the rep's name down?

i wouldn't see why dri won't allow this esp for very last-minute bookings. better to book than have a unit vacant. it is better/good business

Again, this is not magic, I did it this week for the 100th time. This is standard procedure but does not appear to have been in all the II reps training. No name needed.

funny. each time the past two weeks i asked, reps insisted they work for dri and not ii. as a matter of fact the rep yesterday says 'for all the years i worked here (dri), i never heard of this being done (downsizing a unit).

whe u down sized for the 100th time, how far out were you from check-in? i am wondering if they only allow downgrades if you are a st timeframe away from checkin, say like 60 days.

Done it in all timeframes, maybe you shouldn't call it downsizing, maybe you should say that you request that they split the lockoff.
