  • Available Rooms

Yesterday I called The Club to book a room in sedona Az. I told the rep that I wanted to go this weekend for 2 days. She told me that for this weekend all that was available was a studio at The Ridge checking in on Thursday Sept 25th and checking out on Sunday Sept 28th. I told her that I didnt need Thursday night and just wanted to book friday and saturday. She said that I could not book just friday and saturday, that I had to also book thursday if I wanted the room. I asked her why, and she didnt know. Her search was not showing anything for just the 2 nights, but was showing for 3. So she asked a supervisor and I was told that the owner of the unit used a partial week and the 3 days were left over from their original week. This still does not make sense to me. As Club members, isnt the whole point flexablility? Has anyone else experienced this? I am not too happy that I had to waste points on a night that I can not be there.

That makes no sense and is not right, the owner of the unit makes no difference, that's BS. I would immediately email Jeff Shelton, Manager, Executive Resolutions jeff.shelton@diamondresorts.com. Explain the situation and get it fixed. You're right, that's what points are about.

I've ran into this problem also the deal is there is a two night minimum at most of the resorts and when 3 days are left on any unit week and you take two days then they cannot book that single day which is left. I think in the past you could do this more easily but I've noticed in the last year it appears the system won't let you leave a unit say on Saturday if it's a Sunday to Sunday resort this is true only if the next week is either spoken for or not in the club/trust. I thought in the past it just charges you more points if you isolate a single day maybe that has changed. For instance if you start on the wrong day but stay a whole week it might cost you 7700 points versus 7000 I don't know if anyone else saw that or not.

I'm not disagreeing with Spence, I'm just trying to point out what I believe they are doing. This is happening quite often now more so with the end or beginning of the week nonsense.

Maybe the solution is to book single nights at elevated point values I don't know best of luck if they fix your problem please post because I think many of us have run into this problem

Disagree all you want, I have no inside knowledge. But, the elevated point levels for a 7 night stay not starting on a 'standard week' night have always been there. You have to pay the nightly fee even though it's 7 nights. The nightly fee is 10% more because it's 5 x 10% for the weeknights + 2 x 30% for the weekend nights = 110%.

Spence I'm aware of the standard week being 10% more which is not new, but I was trying to bring attention to the subtle point that these units are quantized in that one must book 2 nights and a week is 7 nights. And sometime we pay more points because of it. Example nonstandard week

The problem I had is I wanted to book 6 days in a row for new years at Bent Creek

I tried first taking the last 6 days and I was denied all I was allowed to do was take the first 6 or the last 5 days (I called and confirmed this for a fact because I received an error message in booking on the website (where the unit appears there but when booking it says error in booking). It was for a particular unit a cabin only one was left at the time.

Upon talking to the representative the Cabin was booked for the previous week Christmas and if I booked my first day on a Sunday not a Saturday the cabin would be empty on Saturday night with no possibility of being used because of the minimum booking rule of 2 days. (Notice the second person who isolates the single day is denied the flexibility not the first.) I don't remember seeing these specific booking errors in the past, I don't know what the rule is if this is a new policy or the incompetence of the person dealing with me.
Furthermore if a person can isolate that day they might be able to add that day to their reservation during the half price period, because nobody else can acquire that day which is unfair. Just my thoughts

Just my observations... some resorts, yes I see three days available but not if you take away either the 1st or 3rd day.

I also have been told from reservations that some affiliates (like the new one in Napa California) only allow 7 night stays starting one a particular day of the week (like Saturday)
EMAIL me if you wish, do NOT PM

Although I only listed one occurance I have played around with it quite a bit and it happens almost without fail if someone else has booked the room the week prior or after you. It really isn't that big of point jump in most cases however, this is the least of the problems I have with Diamond because they actually have a leg to stand on and in my opinion should have a chance to book all their inventory and owner points should equate to available inventory, atleast in spirit. Nobody wants to be left with a bunch of points and nowhere to go.
