Since DRI won't put an alert on (I asked them twice to do so already...still waiting for it), I will post it here

Wow that sucks for whoever may be staying there. Thanks for the alert."If a Nation expects to be ignorant and free in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be.... If we are to guard against ignorance and remain free, it is the responsibility of every American to be informed."

yeh ppl like me! at least i am there 2 weeks, first w/ a pool but not during the second week.
it is really stupid of the decision-makers (probably at the resort) to plan on closing the pool starting on a week that is only 1 of 3 (or 4) high peak weeks of the year for that resort. it is also stupid of the dri rep (at headquarters ?) not to put an alert on the diamond site after i suggested TWICE.
Oh, what's DRI/CLUB coming too???EMAIL me if you wish, do NOT PM

No pool = no Kaanapali Beach
Thanks for the heads-up. Thanks to this forum community. This is exactly what I needed to know. I had Kaanapali Beach Club reservation up ready to reserve then I decided I better check this forum. I know, the ocean is steps away but our 15 year old lives at the pool.
All of you help so many of us that you will never know.

Pool closure.....
This project entails resurfacing and repair of the swimming pool and slide. As a result, the pool and surrounding area will be inaccessible during this period. Current estimate of completion is June 20, 2009.
I doubt you'll have much luck lobbying for a delay on this project, as their risk management assessments most likely won't allow the repairs to be delayed. However- I'd recommend owners put pressure on Diamond to provide some type of compensation during the stay.
Outrigger Reef on the Beach has a similar project set to complete in early January.. During that pool closure, a $100 dining voucher per room for each 4 night stay is being presented to guests at check-in. The dining vouchers are valid at Outrigger Reef's Ocean House, Outrigger Reef's Shorebird and Waikiki Beach Walk restaurants which include Giovanni Pastrami, Roy's Waikiki and Ruth's Chris Steak House.
A repair or refurbishment project is never convenient for guests, so I'm sure Diamond expects to field numerous complaints during the construction. Kill the resort management team with kindness and see if you can get a free dinner out of it!my travel website: Vacation-Times.org.

I tried calling the resort a couple of times asking whether they would even consider giving vouchers to a nearby pool for guests to use - nada. I then asked whether they would even scout out a local pool(s) redirect guests to. Again, nada. Sorry, for my language, but WTF ??? If DRI were truely geared towards Simplicity, then what is NOT SO SIMPLE about doing a little research to help alleviate inconvenience to guests? If I were general manager of KBC, I would MAKE SURE the DRI website has a notation in the reservation letting guests know of the pending maintenance, seek out and make arrangements with a local pool(s) where I can refer guests to (maybe at a reduced rate or for free?), and ensure all my staff know to assure guests thay are taken care of because I care about their vacation experience. Simplicity in action.
NOTE: I have emailed DRI about putting a notation on the reservation about this schedule pool outage. The response??? A Simple no response, not even a thank you for the thought.

Based on Diamond's current reputation- it is possible they could pass the costs to the resort owners.
This could be a brand new concept for resort management... Charging a special assessment to provide compensation for a prior special assessment.. The possibilities are virtually endless! Has Starwood thought of this yet!

I guess my plans to use DRI points to exchange into other resort systems isn't so bad after all.
We just recieved the slick (and probably expensive) DRI magazine in the mail. It has pictures that make the resorts look plush and I was thinking.....again....maybe things would turn around. Every time DRI appears to take a step forward, they take one or two corresponding steps back.
I'm getting the imression that their motto of simplicty it to simply mess their owners/members around. Right now simplicty and relaxation seem to be about as far away from reality as anything I've seen. Our timeshare and other photo's at http://dougp26364.smugmug.com/

Recent stay at KBC
I'll have to join in on the Diamond bashing...
I just got back from KBC, and yes, the pool does need some work. I'm not sure exactly when is a good time (isn't Hawaii great at all times of the year), but the pool maintenance has been delayed many times already and needs to get started.
My main complaint is that there is so much LESS at KBC than what used to be there. No breakfast buffet anymore, no Manager's Reception, limited choices for activites, and the "Magical Island Orientation" is more of a ho-hum instead of what it used to be. We're down to ONE restaurant on site so if you're staying a week (with a limited kitchen) you'll wear that menu out quickly.
The only positive change I saw that I liked was the "Dive In Movie" where they inflate a big screen and show a movie in the pool area.
You would expect so much more with a 20% increase in fees.. when actually I got so much LESS than what the resort used to be - oh yea.. we had some really great linens, towels and soaps. *insert sarcasm here*
They are seriously under utilizing a resort that has some great potential!
