I know a year or so ago, 2009 points rolled over into 2010 would have been kept as a separate bucket, at least for when making reservations. Has distinction of points even for trades been removed?

I am not sure what you are asking, to my knowledge once you move the points to the next year they become that years points and you can only roll over 1 years worth of points to the next year.

That is the way I have interpreted it. No matter what you carry forward to the next year, you may only use the amount of points you are alloted each year for any of the "points for _____" programs.

I'm not certain this is true.

2010 points can be carried forward to 2011. I don't think that 2009 points that were carried forward to 2010 can also be carried forward into 2011. If that's true, then 2009 points that were saved would be seperate in some way from 2010 points and it would be in the owners best interest to be certain, when making a reservation, that it's the 2009 saved point allotment that is used first, when making a reservation or an exchange.

If memory serves me correctly, when you carry points forward you need to call DRI when making a reservation or an exchange and tell them to physically use the saved points. Otherwise DRI will automatically use the current years points first.

Now, my memory tends to be a little fuzzy. Especially when I'm dealing with 4 different developers who each have a different reservation and/or exchange process but, that's how I remember things being explained to me about DRI's THE Club points that were saved.

Within a year I don't think that you have to specify anything, each individual point does not carry a flag with it's origin year on it. Things that you need to remember:

You may only save the amount of points you are allotted each year. You may only use the amount of points you are allotted each year for any of the "points for _____" programs up to a maximum of 50,000 points. These things run together from my understanding so if you have 30,000 point account and saved all points from prior year and use 10,000 points for MFs and 10,000 points for airline miles - what you have left would be 40,000 points - 10,000 points you could save and 30,000 points that have to be used for Reservations.

Where you need to specify the YEAR in my experience has been I.I. reservations for future years. In the illustration above you could use those 30,000 saved points for future year reservations in I.I. booked prior to October 31st and DRI will normally use the points from the same year as the reservation but you can tell them to use points from the current year prior to the October deadline.

Doug, you and I are on the same page with this 'fuzziness' in regards to rolling points to the next year for usage. In the past, I know I have been told several times there is a distinction/separation on points that are rolled over. And I have to tell the rep to physically use the roll over pts first as they canNOT be rolled twice. maybe this is old news? and the the new way is as Dale and Spence puts it? I hope so as it makes things 'grandly' simpler (spelling?).

I didn't know there are two pools for new points and roll over points. When I made my reservation on January 2, the rep clearly stated to me that he will use up my 2009 points first before deducting my 2010 points. Yes, I keep borrowing. He also explained to me he could use my 2010 points and leave 2009 points un-touched.

So Peel, you are saying from your experience there ARE two pools of points?
