  • New Guest Certificate Policy

    Hey everyone,
I received the letter that the first guest certificate is free and each additional one is 35.00 Well my family is having a reunion that I can not attend but they need 5 rooms all for the same dates but different sizes. Does anyone know if I put all the rooms in one name (my mothers) will I still be charged 5 times the 35. or will I just get charged once since they are at the same resort with the same dates. I have already booked the rooms online and they are still in my name, but have 5 different confirmation numbers.
    Any info is appreciated!

    Add the guests ASAP!

For some unknown reason, they haven't completed the system work necessary to start charging the fee yet. So far this year, adding a guest to reservations is still free and unlimited!!!

Something is definetely going on with the system. I went in and changed all the reservations and when I was finished it said they were saved, but then when I view them, they have a name that I have never heard of as the occupying guest!
      NOW what?

Call The Club - 877-258-2786 and have an agent there do it. The online system has been broken for months. But the agents can do it just fine.

Hopefully when I call they will still let me do it for free!

They will. I just did one free yesterday. And the agent had no idea when they would be ready to start charging the new guest fees.

I just had a similar experience with a new reservation for a friend. Everything was fine when I confirmed the reservation but the copy forwarded to my email had the name of a guest I registered last year??? I used the change guest feature and the system put the correct name and address on and sent me an an email with the correct information. When automated systems do this it never inspires confidence!

I just hope they don't do something stupid in their implementaion of "guest certificates" and start refusing or charging guests who are already in the system when they show up without a certificate to check in. As well, I wonder how they will handle those guests using a deeded week? And, what about those in the US Collection without Club are they different again? This could get very confusing. Some clarification from Diamond would be helpful!

Adding this new fee for something that costs Diamond nothing in handling is onerous enough ... I would certainly feel fleeced if I could not attend a reunion and had to pay $35 for each of my guests to use my time!

I called this morning and it took the guy 45 minutes to talk to his supervisor and make all the changes to the reservations. He did end up doing it for free (as of now at least). He then emailed me all of the guest certificates, so I will just mail them to my family. It really sucks that DRI is going to start charging you to let your family use your timeshare! It is your time, you should be able to use it anyway that you want!

It does not say that they are going to charge friends or family members if you put there names on it when you make the reservation, only when get additional certificates for that reservation, that how I read it.

                    You are quite optimistic.

When you're using your own deeded week, you can do what you want. It's when you're using Club derived inventory that you're rules set by DRI.

I'm planning on a family reunion in 2010 and will need at least 3-4 2BDRM units. Since we would all be there at the same time, could I just keep all the units under my name and avoid paying for extra guest certificates? I've done this in the past when I've rented 2 units, and not had any problem. The reservations desk simply said I would be responsible for any problems and they added the extra $100 deposit for each reservation.

Yes, this is exactly what we do every time we have a family reunion. I'm doing one this Summer at Greensprings. It does require more coordination without putting individual names on the reservations, but you will not use guest certificates that way. I also like the flexibility it provides, because I book 4BR units and then I can organize families in the best possible combinations!
