  • Convert Fixed week to points

I currently own a fixed week at Powhatan which I bought in November. Am I able to convert it to points? A friend of mine did it last August, but I have been reading that DRI will not convert resales any longer. Does anyone know what the true answer is? I appreciate any guidance you may have.

Its a moving target and it depends on who you talk to when. The bottom line, though, is they're still very much doing it, but for a price and the price is the real fuzzy area!

I have two recent contacts. One purchased new from DRI in Hawaii and had the contract written to allow him a 1 year period to bring in whatever additional points he wanted resale, at no additional cost. Second one went through Owner Services and had to purchase 4000 additional points to bring a used 21,000 point CSV-1 contract into Club, bringing him up to Platinum Elite. He did not disclose the cost for those 4000 points. Past experience says a min of $2000 and as much as $6000, with the probability leaning toward the higher end.

We were at Powhatan this last weekend and the sales center wanted us to buy another 3,000 points for $10,000. Apparently the current economy has not dampened their expectations

Hi - I am new member. I joined to share TS information - mainly about DRI. I have owned a deeded, odd year - flexible week at Poipu in Kauai for about 10 years. I bought when it was Embassy.
Two weeks ago I got a call from Outfield Marketing saying they wanted to come to my house and discuss all our options now that DRI owns Poipu. As expected it was a sales pitch to convert to points - by two sales guys. Price $2995 - plus the annual Club fee, but I had to do it right away and blah, blah, blah.
I managed to fight them off. Just wondering if the added flexibilty and ease of reserving units is really as good as they said in the DRI / II system.

        Thanks.

The developers are willing now to come to your house to sell you points? I have read that some developers will come to your timeshare unit at some resorts but to your house now too? What will be next?

You really need to decide how you typically use your TS before converting to points. If you typically take a week at a time, it may be that your week will continue to fill your needs. But if you need extra days or want to stay less than a week, points may make more sense. Keep in mind, however, that it's more costly (in terms of points) to break your week into days. In other words, it would cost you more points overall to break up seven nights than to use a full week. One advantage of points is that they can be carried over - up to 100 percent of a year's allotment, as long as you make the carry-over by the end of June. So if you don't use them all, they can be carried over for a bigger vacation next year. On the other hand, if you find yourself constantly carrying over points, you probably have too many.

Also - if you have a high demand week, it may be possible you will lose some trading power by converting to points (just my opinion, not based on known fact).
