It is not a 4BR deluxe, but we would be happy to convert with 11000 points/yr. As I understand it, the most points you can carry forward is one year, is that correct?

Everyone really helped, and you were right! I am SOOO glad I did not go into their sales pitch without the info from this forum. They were, VERY surprised by my "good questions", and said as much! They are obviously not accustomed to dealing with well informed people and like to blind side you!
Here is the conversion story!
They did exactly what you said they would - first, they absolutely would not convert my week without a purchase. I tried several times to get the $2995 deal and they would not give an inch there. But what they did was offer me 1000 points plus the conversion of my week for 11000 points to equal 12000 points/yr, and keep my deed - for $4000 with a 5% discount if paid within 30 days, bringing it to $3800.
Then when I agreed, they brought the "escrow person" to the phone and she tried to tell me there was a misunderstanding, and that the offer was only if my week goes into the trust. And of course I needed to make the decision "tonight" or the offer goes away. Or I could buy 2000 points and keep the deed for $5400!
So I said NO THANKS, I won't be pressured!
And amazingly the offer was back on the table, and they made a "special exception" - yeah right- and we got the $4000/$3800 deal and are keeping our deed!
I hope this thread helps someone else. I will definitely be checking in often.
THANKS AGAIN!!

Be sure to check on what the total fees are for those 1000 points you bought, which I assume are trust points.
I'm sure they quoted you annual fee that is based $xx per point. But in addition to that there is probably a fixed annual trust fee. This fee is constant regardless, of the size of the account. Somehow they often "forget" to mention that trust fee. Since that fee is fixed, it can be a pretty significant whack on a small points account.“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”
“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”
“You shouldn't wear that body.”

The sad part is, IMO, they still lied. I believe if you'd have held out, they would have converted your existing week for the $2,995 without the need to purchase an additional 1,000 points along with the MF's on those points and quite possibly an additional trust membership fee that will go along with those points.
I believe, if it were me, I'd recsind the deal and hold out for a straight conversion without the additional points, the additional MF's and possibly the additional trust fee. It would be an easy enough excuse. All you'd have to do is tell them you thought longer about it and decided you didn't need the additional points along with the additional fee's those points will bring. Our timeshare and other photo's at http://dougp26364.smugmug.com/

TROG is right, you will pay for those 1000 Trust points forever, the annual MF currently 10.4cents/of PLUS about a -$200 Trust base fee. This amounts to 30cents/pt for your new purchase.
In this case you might want to do as Doug says, then write the President - Simon Crawford Welch, he has said that the $2995 conversion exists and that's still the price that they 'waive' when you buy on the sales floor.

What they told me is that there is now a minimum purchase of 1000 points for $4000, and also a fee of $2995 to convert.
They said they would waive the $2995, so that I would pay only the $4000, and said over and over that there is a minimum purchase requirement of 1000points.
Does the M/F I will pay on those 1000 points include the $235 CLUB fee? They led me to believe that it does.
The paperwork should come tomorrow and we will look it over and possibly rescind and talk about holding out for the $2995 without buying extra points.
They also told me that they are able to offer this because I was never contacted by DRI when they bought out Sunterra, and that is the only reason they can make this offer - that once the program has been explained they can no longer offer this deal and it would be $4000 plus $2995.
this whole process is making me SICK!! Why can't they just be up front and explain all the options - the real bottom line options???

offer package received
Well, it only took them one day to FEDEX the offer package!
My husband and I will look it over tonight and make a decision.
Is it still the concensus to refuse the package with the 1000 point purchase and hold out for a straight conversion?
Is there anyone reading this that bought the extra points and is either happy or unhappy with that decision?
Thanks, Deb

I think $4000 for 1000 points is expensive. I think you could give the option of holding out a try. You wont' lose anything by trying.

I would never buy additional points to convert. Especially when they advertise that they're saving you the $2,995 conversion fee. That along tells you that there really is a straight $2,995 conversion fee.
In the end, you have to do what you feel is best for you. If $4,000 is a price your willing to pay, you willing to pick up any yearly fee's associated with the additional 1,000 points (read your contract carefully and keep copies filed, you'll probably need them), and you can actually use these points, then I'm not going to tell you you're absolutely wrong to do this. Our timeshare and other photo's at http://dougp26364.smugmug.com/

I posted on here when I made the conversion and for us it has worked out.
The additional points, I think, cost me $2.47 / pt. based on a chart.JEMartin

I'm with Jimbo on this one.
We're pushing the OP to the wall! They have an extremely good deal compared to what most of us got our first time around!
They're still selling 7500 points or less for $15,000 or $20,000 at the various sales offices.
$1000 for 1000 points and $2995 to convert looks pretty fine to me.
