I am going to Hawaii next year and would appreciate any information about Royal Kuhio. I am a Club member and it is my understanding there are only so many units available to club members.

Royal Kuhio
We stayed there a couple years ago. Although we are DRI members, we could not get a DRI reservation, so we rented privately, just to check out the place. It is in the heart of the shopping area, probably a 4-5 block walk to the beach, is old and tired, and lacks amenities. The room we had (called a 1-bedroom) was much smaller than most DRI studios. The bedroom separated from the living room by only an accordion door. The kitchenette was diminutive, and there was a warning on the a/c not to leave it on, and the problems that leaving it on could cause. I doubt we would return. Perhaps the DRI suites are nicer, but the hotel is the hotel, one check-in clerk, one night maintenance/clerk. The WiFi only worked from a patio off of the lobby, and wasn't that reliable. Fortunately there are many inexpensive eateries within short walking distance. There's a public bus that stops in front, and there is free secured parking if you have a car. Alternatively, our daughter and her family just used DRI for their vacation to Kauai, and the DRI resort there was up to date, spacious, beautiful grounds, and great beaches. And it's very easy to book. I think you can even get 1/2 point reservations there now with the economy being shaky.
