  • Sale with TimeShare (DRI)

    Hello,
I am sorry if this questions has been asked many times. I have about 8500 points with DRI (deeded property in Hawaii). I want to sell these. What is the value these days and where can I sell these. Thanks.

    Regards,

What little there was of a secondary market melted with everything else. Go to eBay, write a great listing, start it at $1 and you will get what the market will bear, which may be as low as 1cent per point, but maybe a little more if you can convince a buyer that Hawaii is tops.
... not enough time for all the timeshares ®

Part of writing a good description is knowing exactly what it is you own and are selling. If your listing is unclear interested parties will either not bid or will bid low to compensate for the risk.

Here is one very important item that must be clear. You say you are deeded, but have 8500 points. You can't have point unless you are part of the club. How are you connected to the club????

You are almost certainly in one of these three situations:

      1. You have a deed that is still in your name. You paid your money to join the Club but you retained ownership of your deed.
      2. You swapped your deed for an interest in the DRI/Sunterra Hawaii Trust. (This is the default option when an existing deeded owner joins the Club; option 1 described above doesn't happen unless an owner asks for it, and the sales staff doesn't mention it unless the issue comes up.)
      3. You bought an interest in the Trust as your initial purchase. In this case you never had a deed, though you might have pieces of paper representing your trust ownership that might look as if they are a deed.

Be very sure you know into which of these categories your ownership falls and write your ad accordingly.

Note that your ownership in the Club will not transfer to a buyer. If you fall into situation 1, your buyer will get your deed to whichever resort it is you own at. Your buyer will then be in the same position as any other deeded owner at the resort who has not joined their membership to the Club.

If you fall into situation 2 or 3, your buyer will acquire your undivided interest in the trust, worth 8500 points to make a reservation at resorts within the Trust.

But you must describe the situation clearly or buyers will shy away because they will not be sure of what they are getting.
“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”

“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”

      “You shouldn't wear that body.”

If you have a deeded week and are not in one of the DRI trusts, all you'll be able to sell is the underlying deed to your unit. You can not sell you membership in THE Club, which is the points based reservation system DRI uses.

If you own one of DRI's trust based ownerships, you can sell your points in that trust. But again, the new owner will only be able to reserve at the resorts in that trust, not all of the resorts in THE Club.

As mentioned, make sure you know what your selling and that your listing is accurate and clear. Otherwise you'll get a lot of people avoiding your listing like the plague.

What Is It Worth On Ebay?

The value of points should depend on what the timeshare is really worth.

In Jan 2009 at KBC they wanted to sell me 7000 points (enough points for a EOY week but not in a Deluxe Ocean View unit during Christmas) for $33,000 or a one time offer of $19,000.
