  • Mexico travel refund offer

I just checked the DRI website and Diamond is offering a full refund of points to anyone who had booked travel to Mexico in the next 14 days. None of the exchange companies have been as generous.

    From the website:
We are currently offering all Diamond Resorts International® members travelling to one of our affiliated resorts in Mexico within the next 14 days a full points refund if they wish to cancel. We are in the process of contacting these members however they are welcome to contact our call centers for an update or to arrange the cancellation.

Generally, the faster a virus spreads, the faster it burns itself out. The slow-spreading viruses are the ones to really watch out for (HIV is a prime example).

Here's hoping for a fast burn out!

                Is anybody dreaming of an

old woman in a log cabin in a corn field?

If not, I believe that this will be like all the other scares, Sars, Bird Flu, the Swine flu, et al, and turn out to be a tempest in a tea kettle.

We were in PV early this month and will be going to Orlando on the 10th or next month. If somehow the world is going to end, I want to go out traveling and enjoying life, not cowering under my bed worrying about things I can't control.

                fwiw,

                Greg

I'm with you, Greg. I felt that way after 9/11 when everyone refused to fly. We had an empty plane traveling to Hawaii and had the whole island to ourselves. I refuse to live my life afraid of the boogieman.

The scariest thing will be if this virus mutates into a stronger and deadlier strain. Let's hope not.

Even scarier than the seasonal flu that we deal with every year? That normally kills 36,000 each year in the US, and has killed 13,000 already this year. See source article.

That kind of puts the Swine flu hoopla in perspective.

I agree that the media has done quite a spin on this story. It attracts viewer interest and adds to the advertising revenue. While so far the cases have been mild, we are due for a flu pandemic (worldwide outbreak). Hopefully people will use this outbreak as a warning. Health experts have been cautioning for several years that it's just a matter of time until we get hit hard. It's not a case of IF it occurs - rather WHEN it will occur. The most likely deadly scenario will be an animal flu virus that mixes with a human strain, then mutates into a deadly form. No one will have any natural protection. The last few cases of the Bird Flu outbreak about two years ago were resistant to the antiviral medication. That means the only way to contain a severe outbreak will be to institute mandatory quarantines and bans on public gatherings.
