    My Favourite Spanish resorts

In Tenerife - My favourite is Royal Sunset Beach Club which has lots of nice restaurants around and a lovely promenade to walk along to the large harbour (Marina), good quality too, good reports are coming in for Sunsey Bay which is in the same resort this is a little hilly though. For quality I understand that The Royal Tenerife Country Club is hard to beat but it is somewhat isolated and you would need a car - But Very close to the airport and it is quite windy here in this area of Tenerife - Great for Golfers though as right on course.

With regards to Costa Del Sol - only one resort really ticks the boxes with regards to good quality (book an elite unit if you can with jacuzzi on balcony) and that is Los Amigos Beach club - Don't be fooled by name though as it is close to the coast but the beach here is terrible - only a short 10 minute bus ride to Fuengirola though which is a lovely traditional Spanish resort (buses are cheap and frequent) and from Fuengirola you can explore many nice places by bus or train (don't miss Fuengirola zoo).

With regards to Balerics - Minorca is my favourite and White Sands Beach club scores 10 for location but sadly only 6 for quality of apartments (albeit I have not been there for 5 years so apartments may have been upgraded).

    Hope this helps

      You were right about Spain

A bus service runs from both resorts to Barcelona daily and this will allow you around 8 hours in Barcelona long enough to explore the main sites (Gaudi church and buildings, Parc Guell and Ramblas). Another resort near Barcelona is Sitges - This is more traditional Spanish and very popular with Spanish Gay Community - very pretty. Hope this helps.

All current Spanish resorts are either on Balieric Isles or Costa Del Sol, which is close to Malaga and within visiting distance of Seville and Granada - Trains run regularly from Malaga.
I received an email today from DRI and new resorts added to the Club. You were correct about the new affiliate resort in Spain. DRI has also added an affiliate in Crete. We won't know the quality of the resorts until someone goes there. It seems to be another good addition as far as location, because they do say that it is a short drive to Barcelona for the day.

Thank you for providing good information.

Although I have not stayed in the new Hanimag Damnoni resort I have stayed in the local vicinity and have passed it many times, it is german owned and therefore has a mainly german clientele. The area itself is one of the most beautiful in Crete as it is on the less touristy southern coast of the island. There is a huge sweeping bay with an equally superb golden sandy beach. The village of Plakias is situated in the middle of the bay and has many bars and tavernas and is typically greek, the mountains rise up via olive groves directly behind the village providing a wonderful background to the bay.
Heraklion is the nearest airport as opposed to Chania which is the other end of the island,it is possible to get airport transfers by coach but the taxi ride is more convenient and not too expensive as long as you agree the fare beforehand.
It is not necessary to hire a car as everywhere local is within walking distance. If you want to go further afield to places like Rethymnon or the Samaria gorge then a car would be a bonus, although tours by coach are available.
If you enjoy sun, sand and the quiet relaxed taverna-lifestyle of Greece then this is the place, although I don't know much about the accomodation I would certainly recommend the local area, it is definately one of my favourites.
