  • How do I rent my timeshare week

    Hi there,

I have a couple of units at the Powhatan Resort and I'd like to rent them out to try and cover the maintenance costs since I won't be able to go there this year. Does anyone have any tips on doing this? Can I call the resort directly to do this or do I need to go through some third party?

    Thanks,
    Rob

When those weeks are and what the basis of your ownership is can help determine an answer.

My experience with Powhatan in the past is that any developer inventory will be rented before you and if someone comes and wants just the weekend, that's all they'll rent for you and take their 35% off the top of whatever.

I own (along with my siblings) the two 2-bedroom units for week 36. The units are paid for and I'm just trying to recover some of the maintenance fees since none of us will be going there this year.

I did just call the Diamond Resorts and as you said they take 35% off the top if they can rent the unit.

Week 36 is the week including Labor Day so if you have a Friday check-in you might get three nights rented by the resort or by yourself. If you have a Sat or Sun check-in I wouldn't bet on a rental as most schools are back in session so you won't get the family business. In my experience, no one else will get this rented for you, it's not a good time, do not pay anyone in advance to rent it for you, they'll take your money and you'll never hear from them.

Try asking friends and other family members if they'd like to take your week. Emphasize the availability of a kitchen and laundry - two big pluses over a hotel. You may not get very much money, but some is better than nothing at all. I love Powhatan and would love to have the opportunity to go that time of the year, but my DH is a teacher and the kids are back in school.
