I'm a DRI member that bought in Lake Tahoe around a year or so ago.

I just got a call from Resorts Nationwide about selling my timeshare to them and/or renting it.

When I asked them how they got my information, they said that since it was deeded property that my purchase is a matter of public record, and that's how they find and contact people.

The initial numbers that the gave me for selling it to them, and for renting seemed reasonable. It's something that I'm actually considering since I don't use the timeshare as often as I would like to.

Has anyone ever dealt with this company? What types of things should I look out for/ask about if I decide to get more information from them?


My vacations with DRI have been great, and I'd love to keep them but with everything going on in my life right now, and the non-vacations that I'm having, it just seems like now might be the right time to trade out, do something else with the money that might bring me more joy.

Resorts Nationwide doesn't work that hard to find all those deeded names. Do you really have a deed? If you bought a year ago from DRI, you do not have a deed, you are a member of their TRUST and your name is not a matter of public record. Resorts Nationwide has paid some poor underpaid unscrupulous DRI employee for a list to take advantage of. They have no one that wants to buy or rent your time for any price and just want an up front fee from you so they can go drinking tonight, or worse. Do you really want to contribute to their delinquency?

If you currently own a timeshare and you want help selling or renting, Resorts Nationwide will advertise your timeshare for you until it has been sold.

With Resorts Nationwide all you pay for is the cost of advertising.

Resorts Nationwide has paid some poor underpaid unscrupulous DRI employee for a list to take advantage of.

The majority of their listings are DRI properties (although many are named "Sunterra which indicates just how long they've been listed. The prices indicate why they are still listed.)

Don't do it!! Go to BBB and search Resorts Nationwide in Mount Dora, Fl. & Resorts International Unlimited in Longwood, Fl and look at the buisness contacts & profile. I'm sure glad I did or otherwise I may have been a victim also.

Yes, they are still there, but the original post was from Aug 2009. Saying "Don't do it!!" over a year later isn't going to be effective to the original poster. That is all I was saying.

Certainly, join in other discussions, learn and share, but seldom will it be of help to reopen a very old discussion.

They are most definitely still out there and active. I got duped into forking over $1870 so that they would "rent my DRI timeshare by the end of the year for $1800"... that was on Oct. 29, 2010. I have yet to hear from them and have tried contacting the person that sold me the scam numerous times but he is never there! And the lady I now have to speak with says that she doesn't know anything about "promising to RENT my timeshare but they do guaranty a sale within six months...." It has been six months and again, I have yet to hear from anyone.
bottom line... Don't fall for another scam when you are trying to get out of the first one you jumped into.... they are just as bad, if not worse.

I was one of those that was dooped by these people. I have passed the six month point with not so much as a peep from them or an interested buyer. The individual that contacted me made the promises of return to investment almost instantly with a rental. Further he claimed that if they were unable to rent or sell our property there would be feturn of advertising investment. Currently I am attempting to have contact with them and keep getting the run around. I call and the "ever so sweet" receptionist always wants to know your name....then there is a pause as I'm sure she looks it up.....then she informs you that someone will call you right back. Now, yesterday I actually had a call back from "Nicole Downing" who was someone I had spoken to in the beginning. Fortunate for her...she calls me at the end of their work day...when I called them that morning. Not sure how this will all pan out but I have a good feeling I will never see my $1870 back. Would love to have some recourse against these scam artists but it doesn't even look like a report to the BBB has done a thing for anyone. Wish my hindsight didn't have me looking so stupid.

Why do you think you might actually get your money back? I too had the exact same scenario and when I finally got to speak to someone it was Nicole Downing for me too. She sounded dismayed when I said how upset I was as I reiterated almost the same story as yours, but she said "No one would have guaranteed a rental... we only promise a SALE within six months! I would be happy with either!

I have also filed a report with the BBB, a report with the Florida Attorney General's office and a report with the Dept of Agriculture (go figure!), as that is who the AG's office said I had to go through. And for what... Nothing. Absolutely nothing. I am most angry with myself though as I threw good money after bad, having already been duped into what I was led to believe was much better than a timeshare (points), but what has turned out to actually be worse!

Since the demise of Crimeshare, which used to be run by some of the officers of the Timeshare Consumers Association of the UK, Shark Alley is the one place I know of that puts info on timeshare scammers in one place.

Resorts Nationwide is being investigated by the Dept. of Agriculture Consumer Service

Resorts Nationwide was served yesterday (4/20/2011) by the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. They have jurisdiction over this area and are handling this case.

If you were ripped off by this company, like we were last year, justice is around the corner!
