  • DRI ownership surrender option good 2009 only

Although not publicized widely, DRI has been willing to take back ownerships surrendered by owners if the ownerships were fully paid off, all maintenance fees were paid (including the current year) and there were no reservations made for the current year. This program has been discussed at the DRI Forums.

Essentially, the program allows owners to walk away from their ownership.

I just saw a July 16 post from CeliaD in the I want to give my timeshare back to DRI thread indicating the program is for 2009 only and may or not be extended into 2010.
“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”

“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”

    “You shouldn't wear that body.”

The reason it's NOT PUBLICIZED is because it can't be good press if you tell your new marks that you can walk away from it if you're paid up AND you pay for use for that current year and don't get the use AND you have to pay them closing costs. I'm sure their super secret program will be there for people to basically pay the developer to take it back.

And there are some memberships out there for which that is the best option to dispose of the property.

If referring to DRI only then I agree... I've seen contracts for as few as 500 points
        10.4cents/pt + CLUB Fee + TRUST Fee = about $1/pt in fees
so I'd say it's certainly a good way to dump any contract 3500 points and below

Is that what you're talking about, Steve
I'm sure the Diva hadn't considered those
... not enough time for all the timeshares ®

Those are exactly the contracts I was thinking about.

Does anyone know if this offer is available to Points Owners in the European Club?
If so I would think that there would be many takers.

Not a bad deal for DRI ?

Not a bad deal for DRI if I surrendered my membership I would have to pay $6000 and have no access to thoses holidays paid for and DRI can resell those holidays and points on top of that.

I did ask about partial surrender of memberships but DRI are not interested.

I think if I was that strapped for cash I would just not pay my fees or take holidays and wait for them to write my membership off and discharge debts -there are so many members simply not paying their fees because of the extortionate increases over the last 2 years and I cannot see DRI taking legal action because of all the bad publicity and highlighting their huge fee increases for all the public at large to see - not the best bit of marketing in my view.

Really, salesmen will sell almost anything, won't they, those small contracts are worse than worthless, aren't they?

I think the reason you can't have reservations and still take advantage of this deal is that they can't really re-sell it if there are outstanding reservation. I own two fixed weeks in January and rented those weeks out. My units are long payed off and the maintenance fees were paid for this year. I was still able to surrender these weeks even after having used them this year. Of course, they still got their $500 surrender fee for both weeks.
