  • I can't use my free week thru Interval International...what can I do with it?

When I bought into the Club over a year ago part of the deal was a free 1BR week through II, just pay exchange fee. Due to work schedules and a new baby, our Hawaii trip was never reserved. I need to book a week and take the trip by 3/16/10.

I called DRI and they said I can book a week and then add someone as a guest so they can use it for $39 fee plus the exchange fee.

My question is how much is this worth? I am going to ask family/friends if anyone is planning a trip. I can use it; however, there are only a few options that work with my family's schedule.

But if I were to sell/rent out this week to anywhere available via II, how much should I ask?

Anyone here want to buy it?

I saw one of these certificates on sale on ebay for $850.

Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. If you want to make an offer, you can PM me. I can give you my ebay userid to check my feedback or we can work out a deal where I put on ebay so you can have a documented transaction.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Give it to a friend or relative. I had one of these as well that I couldn't use. My brother used the week and gave me enough to cover the booking fee and the guest cert. It cost you no more than that so why not see if a family member or friend can use it for what it cost you to book it? Are you trying to make something extra or just keep it from going to waste?

You've been with us for awhile. II rules prohibit you from doing most of what you're suggesting, you're opening yourself up for quite some problems if it's an II person who contacts you. Good luck!

When they say "add someone as a guest" they mean just that....It is against II rules to rent an exchange whether that exchange is one using a week or one using a accomodation certificate or bonus week.

Either use it yourself or give the week to a family member by adding the $39 guest certificate.

As Spence said - u have been a member here for quite a while - I am surprised you don't already know this info.

Been a member but I rarely delve into my DRI stuff. I called DRI today (their number is on the certificate to call to reserve) and I they told me that I can add a guest and that I don't have to be present at the resort. Even my salesman who gave me the certificate said I could "rent" it. I think the reason is because the certificate is a DRI certificate, not a II certificate.

Sorry if I offended anyone...I never owned a timeshare before and am a casual user of my points. I have never used II before and Iy visit this site infrequently.

Salesmen either lie or just don't know. The salesman was wrong. You can not rent a week aquired as a bonus week, which is still considered an exchange, without risking having your membership with Interval suspended, losing the exchange fee you paid and having the reservation canceled. It's not worth the risk of renting it.

I have given several Accomadation Certificate weeks (aka bonus weeks) to co-workers over the years. While I have never accepted any money for the certificates, I have allowed those who are using the week to use their credit card to pay both the exchange fee and the guest certficate fee when we did the online booking. I might be generous but I'm not going to pay the fee's so someone else can take a vacation. Interval does not seem to have a problem unless your making what they consider a profit on the transaction.

Seems like there is a pattern of these lies that DRI reps tell to close the deal. Perhaps it is time to start putting pressure on DRI. In California, the sales centers are regulated by the California Board of Real Estate. Other states must have similiar oversight. If we started complaining to the Real Estate boards, they might have an incentive to stick to the truth....or maybe I am just being naive.

It only counts if it is in writing - so just because they (the salesperson) say it doesn't make it true.
Look thru your paperwork and see if it says you can rent II bonus weeks/exchanges - I don't think u will see that.
Giving someone else a week by purchasing a guest cert is certainly okay - but renting is not.

yes, true, but enough pressure from regulatory bodies would play a big part in stopping or help minimizing this bullshit from spilling out of salespeoples' mouths.

I too have gone to several presentations where 'renting' was brought up as a viable option for owners.

In Europe most of the salespeople are based in the resorts e.g. Spain and the Canary Islands where there is no regulation regarding what they tell prospective buyers, consequently they have built up an extremely poor reputation for themselves. Many members have complained continuously about the lies that they have been told just to clinch a sale and also during "update presentations". The company pay lip service to the complaints but nothing has improved. In my opinion Timeshare Salespeople are the lowest form of life, the quality of persons employed in the industry sales wise has deteriorated dramatically. I would not even give them the time of day and never, ever have anything to do with them while I am on vacation anymore because , on past experience, all they do is lie. I think that as part of the job qualification lying has to be part of their DNA !!
DRI have recently introduced the role of concierge in Europe , who do they think they are kidding? They are just salespeople in disguise. O.K. they might offer you advice and assistance but the bottom line is to sell you more points, most of them are so stupid they aren't even able to hide the fact either !

Well, I was able to find a week at Riviera Spa Resort in Capistrano Beach that will fit our schedule...so I am good now. I am a little ticked off at the salesman though. However, what do you expect from a TS salesmen?
