Do similar charges

Do additional charges apply across all Hapimag resorts that DRI are affiliated with? If we have to pay additional charges for electricity then I would like to see this either monitored by coin meters or by a flat rate per week dependent on size and occupancy of apartments.

Simplicity is good if we can roll all costs into points required.

Since that is a charge by the resort that would now be paid by DRI, that means that DRI would have to monetize (i.e., rent out) Club member inventory to make that payment. As we've seen when points are monetized, the actual cash value received for points when monetized that way are usually pretty poor - typically the return when using points for services equates to about 50 cents of what the points are probably worth if used for market rentals.

Thus all things considered I would prefer to not pay what is essentially a cash charge using points that have lost half of their value. I would rather keep the points and use them for something where I can realize better value from them, such as adding a day or two on to a trip to Hawaii.

I think in general guests are better off paying cash for such surcharges. Bundling fees like that into points - or using points for almost any non-accommodation related purpose - generally makes sense only if someone has points to burn that are going to expire unsued if the don't do something with them.

From the description it appears the charge is unique to this resort. In the discussions at the DRI message board, the DRI reps indicate that DRI was aware of the added charge for the Marrakech property as they were discussing the inventory share with Hapimag. DRI decided that the attractiveness of offering a resort in Marrakech was great enough to add units from that property to the pool despite the added charges.

This IS a one-off and my question still remains unanswered......do we want this type of resort in the future?
I see it as unnecessary and most definately not the way forward, it opens the floodgates to more and more extra expense when there are enough already. I think DRI should be told quite firmly that this is not what we as members want, we entered the points system so that the points would cover every possible expense. 350 GB pounds( approx $500) on top of the high points value is ridiculous and totally unnecessary no matter what justification is offered

Personally, one of the reasons I got into points was for flexibility and options. To me, this another option, and for me the situation is simple. If Marrakech isn't worth the points and the added charges, I won't go there.

If that is what you feel you should post your thoughts at the DRI message boards. If enough people share your sentiments I'm sure the message will be received. But don't be surprised if other people have a different viewpoint.
