I'm convinced that is more perception than reality.

Drive time from AVK (with only two internal bus stops) to MK bus depot, per google maps: 16 minutes.

Drive time from SSR (with 5 internal bus stops) to MK bus depot: 13 minutes.

Of course, "everyone knows" that AKV is in the middle of nowhere, but I don't think the extra three minutes really matters that much---particularly if you ned up doing the grand circle tour of SSR to get out of that resort.

I'm not all that gung ho about driving though...I would love to minimize that and if Disney transport works, then I'm sure that it will stay parked most of the week.

Thanks to everyone for the hints.
You could take use DME and then rent a car at the Dolphin or Car Care Center. That is what we always do and it works out great!

Avoid the Carousel section - if that's what they give you a check in but you could have something else in an hour or two - WAIT ! However in theory that could change in a few years once the newly proposed feature pool goes in there.

We've only stayed in the Grandstand section and that worked out well. It's the first stop so you're pretty much guaranteed a seat. Granted you do have to ride the bus all around the resort after you get on, but I'd take an extra 5 minutes with a seat vs having to stand. It's also the first stop to get dropped off so it evens out. From the Grandstand (and we were the farthest building), it took me, our son (4 at the time), and my 5-mo pregnant wife about 5 mins to walk from the Grandstand to the Springs section with the feature pool, check-in, and food is.
