  • DVC- Are they killing the magic of resales?

Interesting rumor post over at MouseOwners..

C-R-O-A-K !!! Deeper Croaker Speaks!!! - The DVC Boards at MouseOwners.com - the place to talk DVC and Walt Disney World

However, this is the second time I've heard these exact same "rumors". Unless my DVC source is the same as the OP, the stories are two identical to simply be coincidence.

If these changes are approved, Jim Lewis should be ashamed to show his face in public!

For DVC owners who have already realized the magic pixie dust is simply stale glitter as right of first refusal price support has been abandoned and prices have plummeted, this betrayal would be another stab in the back. Attacking future resales by making the actual usage of resale DVC points so limited that even making a decent reservation will be almost impossible is simply a blatant developer scam intended to prop up sales for a product they believe has no real value!

Making these changes would effectively kill resales, and bring already falling resale values down to the equivalent of Wyndham's or Diamond's point programs, worth just slightly more than used scratch off tickets.

Abandoning owners at this point will show the mouse in a whole new persona- a rabid money grubbing rodent who hugs your child simply to pick their pocket of grandma's birthday check.. Well, maybe not a brand new persona- but certainly a more public appearance without the disguise!

I'm used to developers who believe timeshare is a worthless product that must be sold using trickery and sleight of hand, and then cashed out by selling mortgage notes as soon as possible before the public realizes the truth- but I have to admit that I thought DVC was better....

Perhaps we can get a new law on the ballet by petition- all upper management for any timeshare development company must maintain an active timeshare forums membership and post a minimum of 500 times. Perhaps then they could learn a little about the actual product they sell- both the good and the bad! More importantly, they could actually get their hands a little dirty by rubbing elbows with and learning about the people who actually buy and believe in their products.

Mr. Lewis- perhaps you need to go to a live children's performance of Peter Pan. That moment when the audience cheers and claps to revive Tink- that moment when the kid's faces tell you they truly believe in magic- that is something you should experience.....

Remember, this is the company that conned Florida into giving them their very own private government. Nothing should surprise you.

I don't see the most dramatic things happening. It's funny, I hear from Bluegreen owners who get the exact same rumors from Bluegreen sales staff about BG Points. It's almost never even remotely true.

I don't see Disney limiting resales to home resort only. Or 7 months or less only either. That is a basic right of ownership. And, if you own a very popular resort, you could find yourself buying an ownership and never being able to use it. That doesn't help Disney in any way. They could limit access to some of the newer resorts like Aulani.

The only things I think Disney can do is raise the transfer fee to say $1000. Or, remove some exchange options. Those are more realistic changes.

If Disney does do something to impair resales, I'm good with it because I'll pick up some really cheap Disney packages.
