  • DVC rental

Have to admit I am quite the WDW fan. We have friends there for Thanksgiving and another who just came back from a week at Animal Kingdom lodge. Last night my DD came home for Thanskgiving break and said she really wants to go back again (it's been nearly 2 years). So I'm starting to think hard about another trip. Though I'd love to buy DVC, it's just not in our budget, even at resale price. I am considering renting from another owner. However, I have no idea how to do this or what to expect for cost. Those of you who rent your DVC points, can you give me some idea of how this works and a rough estimate of costs for a week at Animal Kingdom lodge - most likely during late June or early July (probably would want to avoif the week of the 4th). PM me if you want, however, please don't consider this a firm request. I am simply looking at options. We can stay at a TS off property. But having stayed at Disney-owned resorts in the past, I can't beear the thought of driving to parks every day and then having to drive back to the TS every evening. Plus, there's nothing like staying on property - that seems to be a big part of the Disney Magic.

DVC reservations tend to be rented on a per-point basis: $10/point is a pretty common number. You can compute the required number of points here (click on Points Calculator)
David's Disney Vacation Club Point Rentals

and you can find a pretty sizable contingent of owners renting points here:

(Go to the DVC section, where there is a Rent/Trade board.)

When I have had extra DVC points I couldn't use, I rented them on DISBOARDS.com. Ten dollars per point is pretty much the going rate. It is still not cheap but much cheaper than owning DVC. It is very much a trust issue. I know some have been had trouble renting or buying but most of the DVC members are honest and like the option to rent out extra points. I rarely have any left but this year we had 3 new babies so no trip to WDW for us. Already booked for next year though! There are 16 going!!!!

mouseowners.com is also a site with an active rental threads.

There are a few mega renters like Daddio who Bnoble referenced, but Greenban and others also are megarenters over there who might go cheaper than $10 a point. I've seen stuff going for 6-7 a point last minute.

Daddio's prices are too high---only use him if you absolutely can't be bothered to do any research on your own.

I believe Daddio will negotiate although he doesn't advertise that fact. He doesn't own his points so he makes his money on the spread. It's the owner who gets less. He just sort of brokers the deal. So I wouldn't rule him out. It wouldn't hurt to make an offer. He does do last minute inventory.

There are others who own their points so no middle man. Presumably the savings is passed onto the buyer but not always.

I second mouseowners.com, too. It's a nice alternative to the disboards rental forum. A lot of the older long-time DVC owners have moved over to mouseowners.com.

Right now I am looking to rent 19 points for a 1 night in March at Bay Lake Towers. Non of the big guys will do the small amount of points. Not really looking to deal with disboard - but will try mouseowners - thanks for the heads up.
