  • Tom Yeary and the Timeshare Store now renting DVC points @ $12. point...

Looks like Disney is losing the battle to stop DVC rentals.. With their failure to stop the business model created by dvcrequest.com, it looks like it has emboldened a few of the Disney Vacation Club brokers to also step into the rental arena..

It will be interesting to see how Disney responds to this new venture...

I think I recall Tom (or maybe Jason) talking about this on DISboards. IIRC, it was driven in part by a few owners who were underwater and were not able to bring money to closing. So, renting is an alternative option to mark time.

I'm so glad that they are offering that service. I talked to them for about a year before I found the right contract, which I bought from them right before the changes of March20. The whole staff always seemed to sincerely only care about what I wanted - never tried to push anything on me. It was very refreshing.

I've already promised my points out to other services (renting my points to pay for Alaska cruise), but in the future, I will use TSS.

That is decent news - I have used dvcrequest in the past - but they were a bit steep at $14 per point. But, I felt a bit more secure dealing with him than random posters on dis. I recall him telling me he paid more than $10 per point - so in the end....."selling" the points to DVCrequest may still be a better deal for the seller only. Renter on the other hand has a new option!

Disney is already renting points to members for $15 a piece so I wouldn't be surprised if they start selling trial packages to get people hooked.

At $140 a point they're really getting greedy. I wouldn't have minded doing a small add on but not at $140 a point. That's just crazy expensive.

How many DVC points does it take to stay in say, Wilderness Lodge, 2 bedroom, off season? Curious to see how costs stack up against an exchange thru RCI...

Renting, even at $10/pt, is more expensive for larger units unless you are paying ridiculous amounts in MFs.

For studios, it can be more competitive.

Thanks. Fortunately I have very good TPU costs so guess I will stick with exchanging - not that I've actually done one into Disney...yet!

The lowest point usage for what you asked is 269 points for one week. It ranges up to 457 points for the same unit at different times of the year.

I agree. $140 a point is nuts to me. Especially in this economy - I'm surprised it's went up that high so quickly.

We rented a few points from DVC to complete a reservation last year. Too bad DVC doesn't do like Wyndham and let you rent more than 24, though.

I like exchanging in and the best part about exchanging is my favorite (SSR) is readily available.

Makes me wonder if all those new R/T rules has anything to do with the TSS now renting DVC points.

There has been a lot of snarky activity over on the Dis.
