Love the bands way more than the food!

The best fun is the bands from the '60's and '70's that play at the Festival. We loved going last year and had a great time watching all of our favorite bands.

The same can be said for The International Food and Wine Festival, going on right now. We just got back from our twelve days and fought the crowds through the World Showcase a few different days to see Survivor (Eye of the Tiger), Starship sans Grace Slick (formerly Jefferson Airplane, then Jefferson Starship) and Family Stone (minus Sly). The food does not interest me, but Rick and I would go every single night if we lived nearby, just to see the bands.

Beach Boys were great last year, but the only original was Mike Love. We also saw Edgar Winter perform last year and got to go backstage to meet him. He keeps in touch with Rick's brother who was in the band when "Frankenstein" was a huge hit.

I would love to see Brian Wilson perform, but that is not going to happen, unfortunately. My brother-in-law (Ronnie Montrose) met Brian Wilson a few years ago in Austin when both were performing at a huge music festival. I did not know my brother-in-law was such a fan of Brian Wilson, since his music is a very different genre.

I can't believe we can go to Epcot for a week and see all of these bands perform their big hits. It is amazing that Disney does this, year after year. Those of you who go for the food pay a lot for those little samplings, but there we are with our cooler with our caffeine-soda, watching the bands for free.

I forgot to mention that Epcot's flower festival in May of 2006 also had a beautiful butterfly display, where dozens of butterflies were in an enclosure that you could walk through. I loved going through it, though it was the busiest spot in the park and there was a long wait to get into it.

It was odd to go back in September, just last week, and see that all of the small ponds with flower gardens were gone that were there for the spring flower festival. The walkway to the World Showcase had lots of water displays, small waterfalls, special flowers and rocks, but they moved that stuff out and the area is back to grass again. Such a magical place! I just kept imagining gardening in a hot spot like central Florida.

We were there last well too! And you kow, my wife and I both commentted how it seemed so blah without the floating flower pots and all the displays, like during the Flower Show.

One of the most welcome signs of spring is Epcot's annual
International Flower & Garden Festival. While the grounds at
Epcot are always beautiful, the Flower and Garden Festival
