  • Where's your favorite place at Disney?

A writer from the Palm Beach Post listed his 10 favorite places for "mini-escapes" at Disneyworld that offer a bit of shade and quiet and to rest his feet. His list is:

    1. Afternoon tea at the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa's Garden View Lounge
    2. The fire pit at the Animal Kindom Lodge
    3. Tomorrowland Transit Authority at the Magic Kingdom
    4. The petting zoo/stables at Fort Wilderness Resort
    5. Frozen margaritas at Epcot's Cantina de San Angel
    6. The "Villains Room" aka the watch department in Downtown Disney's World of Disney
    7. The fishing hole at Port Orleans Resort
    8. The boat ride from Epcot to Boardwalk
    9. The Writers' Stop at Disney-MGM Studios
    10. Beaches and Cream at the Beach Club.

What are you thoughts on this writer's list?

For all of you Disney pros, where do you like to go for a mini-escape for peace and quiet?

I love Tomorrowland's People Mover (Transit Authority) and ride it often while Rick is on Space Mountain.

Carousel of Progress is a great little respite for a comfortable, cool spot on a hot day.

There is a little ice cream/funnel cake shop in Magic Kingdom that we frequent when we are tired, after a stop at Hall of Presidents. The ice cream stop is a sharp left out of the Presidents show, you cannot miss it. Great place to watch the parades while eating a cookie ice cream sandwich for $3.50. It is a bargain, by the way.

Rio del Tiempo is a nice little ride, very relaxing, that we visit every time we go "into Mexico."

We also love the show The American Adventure. Seating is very comfortable and provides a nice spot for a nap. The entry is ornate and has some great art and benches to take the load off.

The show in France is a good one and we get to sit down there. We also like China's show that has been revamped recently, but you have to stand.

Soarin' is a great ride and is easy to ride several times first thing in the morning or late at night, while Illuminations is going on.

I love The Land ride and am amazed at the technology for farming. Some find it boring, but I never do.

The newest restaurant, The Turf Club at Saratoga Springs is a relaxing experience, very different from the others we visited with our dining plan. The food was good, the place was quiet and the service was excellent. I felt funny sitting in that nice place with my Mickey shirt on. Pretty soon, everyone is going to know about that restaurant and it will be as busy as the rest.

Can you tell I love Disney? I could list twenty more great spots.

Did you see the World Largest tomato plant?

Yes, it is just amazing--the number of tomatoes they have gotten from that one plant.

I was disappointed that the tour is no longer conducted by a live person. But I guess Disney is downsizing, which is obvious when you see some of the harried employees, trying to load people onto rides as quickly as possible. Pirates and Small World need more people working. The boats were backing up.

We usually go in the summer so any place with airconditioning is my favorite

            Our current favorites:

            Little Mermaid show
            Wilderness Lodge lobby
            Animal Kingdom gift shop
Epcot at night visiting the country shops

Cant wait to go back in December and add to this list.

                Jen,
The Little Mermaid show is closing very soon, probably by January. There is going to be a Broadway show of the same name and they do not want competition for the show at Disneyworld.

I read this in Unofficial Guide.

When at Epcot, we do Space Ship Earth as an escape.
When at Magic Kindom, we ride either the train or the people mover.
When at MGM, its the Chinese Theater
When at Animal Kingdom, either the Safari or walking trail just past the Safari.

When we stay at SSR, our home resort, its just casual walks along the water ways and gardens.

And any boat ride in Disney!

We also really loved the boat ride from Old Key West to Downtown Disney, where we ate dinner at Captain Jack's and had steak and lobster on the DDP. What a deal.

Anyway, the lanai at Old Key West was really nice. Ours was one of the three-sided ones. We stayed in unit 3833 for 12 days and nights and loved the resort, the unit, and everything about the place, even the maids were terrific. I definitely want to buy DVC points sometime, but trading in is okay for now.

Our foster son (now 27) was with us the last few days, then he stayed in the unit by himself and took the Magical Express to the airport. He thought that was so convenient. I loved being able to provide that for him, since his mom left before we did and Kimeul didn't have a car. He was jealous of our unit after staying at Orlando International Resort Club with his mom and her friend.

                      Cindy,

Thanks for the heads up on the Little Mermaid show...our 2 year old is totally into Ariel right now so we will be sure to take her to see it on our December trip.

Dinner at the California Grill......It's my favorite Disney Restaurant. I usually go there at least once every time that I'm at Disney. I love relaxing with a Cosmo, overlooking the Magic Kingdom, and sometimes, seeing the fireworks.

                          Tom Sawer Island

I've always loved Tom Sawer Island. Even on a busy day, you can often find a quiet, shady place to sit down.

I just read in Unofficial Guide online that Rio del Tiempo is getting a major refurbishment that will include animation, with Donald Duck and the three Caballeros. It sounds really cute and will open soon, probably for summer. Just thought I would mention that, since it is one of my listed favorite quiet spots.

Another thing I really enjoyed was the boat ride over to Beach Club Villas and Boardwalk Villas from Epcot. We didn't stay there, but I wanted to see what it would be like to be at an Epcot resort. I definitely want to do that!
