Would someone please explain DVC Disney Vacation Club
new rule enforcement limiting transfers to once per year

Also what are the steps to Transfer Points
from One DVC Member to Another Member

The rule has always been there, just not enforced.

one transfer of points into/out of your account per year (no limit on number of points thought)

its easy top transfwer, just call DVC

One transfer per contract or One transfer per membership

It is my understanding that you are allowed to transfer in or out ONCE per DVC membership # per use year.

If you have multiple membership #s then you can can transfer once each from each membership #.

Please remember that current Membership policies limit
Vacation Point Transfer Transactions to one transfer
per Member or Membership, either as a transferee or
transferor, during a given Use Year.

So this implies that you can do one transfer (in or out) per use year. Even more confusing!

We were really disappointed with this change because when we needed more points in the past, it was easy to have some transferred in. Now, if we have them transferred in for the one time each use year, and then we change plans, we end up with too many or too few...this happend to us this year. But, I see why DVC has done this to limit all of the commercial renting and point transfers.

                  Marti,

Can you be more specific on what it is that your are looking for?

Currently, as stated in this thread, DVC will only allow one transfer per year, either going into an account or out of an account. There is no limit to the number of points only the number of times this can occur. This was done in an attempt to stop commercial operators from transferring in points from members and then using those points to reserve units at prime time, such as Xmas, at high rental rates. The effect was to deny units to DVC members who may have wished to reserve a unit at those times. DVC does allow the right to rent your points (in the POS) but not compete against Disney. DVC has also sent letters to members who have made what Disney determines is a significant number of reservations for non-contract members.

DVC has several resorts where an ownership in one resort has the ability to make reservations in another DVC resort with a limitation. This limitation is the 11/7 month rule where an owner of a resort (let's use SSR (Sarataga Springs) since it is the resort that I own) can make a reservation in the resort that they own (SSR in this case) but cannot make a reservation in any of the other DVC resorts. As such, at the 11 month mark from the end of the vacation stay, an owner at SSR can make reservations at SSR but not the other DVC resorts, VWL (Villas at the Wilderness Lodge) can make reservations at VWL but not the other DVC resorts, etc. At the 7 month date from the end of the reservation, any DVC owner can make reservations at any of the DVC resorts. As such, an SSR owner can make reservation at VWL. So between the 11 month and the 7 month, only owners can make reservations at the resort they own but after 7 months, any owner can make reservations at any of the DVC resorts.

As far as banking, DVC use to be complicated where you could only bank 100% 6 months out, down to 25% 2 months out. That has been simplified to you can bank 100% 4 months up to the end of the use year. The only date that DVC members need to remember for banking is that it needs to be done 4 months before the end of the use year. This takes effect in January.

As far as rentals, there are two methods but I think that you are actually interested in renting from a member. The first member is that DVC has some units in inventory from exchanges to II, cruise, etc. and these are handled through Disney normal rental agencies. The second, from a member, is where you contact and negotiate with a member the dates and cost, the member calls member services to see if it is available, lets you know that it is available, and if agreeable, from this a contract is finalized. The owner then makes the reservation for the renter with member services. The renter has no contact with Disney or member services. There is a good deal of faith on both parties when doing a rental as the person making the points trusts that the renter will follow through with contract and not cancel. Depending on when a contract is cancel, the owner could be restricted in the use of the points or perhaps even lose them (end of use year as an example and unable to bank). The same is also true for the renter as the reservations could be canceled in a situation where the owner sold their points.

                  Does this help?
                  Gary

                    Q:

My question at the moment is
Can I transfer our 2007 points to a member
and then transfer 2008 borrowed points to a
second memberwithin the same calendar year.

Thanks Gary for the detailed information

Didn`t know about the new banking rules.

You can't transfer borrowed points. I was of the understanding that 2007 points would be transferred to 2007 points and 2008 points would be transferred to 2008 points. From the disboard thread below, you can transfer more than once within the same calendar year as long as the transfers are of different use year. There doesn't seem to be a lot of information on the DVC member site. I would recommend trying the disboards as there had been a lot of discussion about this a few months back.
