Best timeshare for Disneyland

My husband and I are Disney fanatics, but since we live in CA, we mostly go to Disneyland (not Disneyworld). I've considered buying into DVC, but using the points for Disneyland hotels don't seem that great. Does anyone have any advice for a timeshare that would be good for both Disneyland and Disneyworld?

Maybe the Marriott System? There's Marriott Newport Coast which is supposedly 30 minutes from Disneyland (I've never driven it) and there are plenty of Marriotts in Orlando.

The two timeshares that are closest to Disneyland are Dolphins Cove and Peacock Suites. But I don't think those are affiliated with any others in Orlando.

Just looked and it seems that Dolphins Cove may be affiliated with either/and Worldmark and Fairfield and Peacock Suites is a Shell Vacation property. Still don't know if that would help you with Orlando.

Hmmm, sounds like perhaps there isn't a "perfect" Disneyland/Disneyworld timeshare. Maybe I just need to wait until DVC finally comes out with something... (Hurry up, Disney!)

If it's mostly Disneyland then buy a TS there as it's easy to trade anything for Orlando unless you've gotta have DVC.

There are Fairfeild and Worldmark in both Disneyland and DisneyWorld. I would buy something to trade into them rather than buy into them. It will save you money in the long run.

I have several that have been great traders, the key is high demand location and time as well as reasonable maintenance fees. My Southern California coastal 1BR, Central California coastal 1BR, and amazingly enough Wisconsin 1BR & 2BR, get anythin available in RCI. They all float and you just have to pick that prime summer week to deposit. If interested in any of these, let me know as I'm still in the midst of a portfolio adjustment.

Which TS companies are best?

I'm still a little fuzzy on how the whole trading thing works (I've actually got a post in the exchange section asking for a tutorial for newbies). Are there any TS companies that are particularly good for using to exchange?

I've stayed at Dolphin's Cove and it was just okay. A really great timeshare in the area that is much further away is Lawrence Welk Resort villas. What an awesome place! We drove into Disneyland for one day. It was not very convenient. However, it was a decent location for visiting the San Diego Wild Animal and Park, the San Diego Zoo, and Seaworld.

DVC is supposed to be building near the Grand Californian at Disneyland Resort. WorldMark is building a new timeshare near Disneyland. If you are a Disney fanatic then I would imagine you would want to be as close to the parks as possible. DVC may be the one if they do build in Cali. Still awaiting the long rumored announcement.

Dolphin's Cove has some WorldMark Credits units but mostly Fairfield/Wyndham Points units. This place is about 4-6 blocks from DL, with local, public bus service or it's walkable if you don't mind a longer walk.

WorldMark has 2 connected resorts in Orlando. Fairfield/Wyndham has 1 in Lake Buena Vista, 1 in Orlando and 2 in Kissimmee. The FF/Wyn Bonnet Creek Resort is located next to Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort in Lake Buena Vista and it offers occasional shuttle service to the Disney parks (a few times per day w/24 hr advance reservations). FF/Wyn BCR is a very popular option for timesharers who want a great location that's not Disney-operated.

WM credits may be used to reserve at any and all WM resorts, nightly or weekly stays. FF points may be used likewise at FF/Wyn resorts. WM and FF/Wyn have an agreement to permit a limited number of reservations at a limited number of each other's resorts but Bonnet Creek is not part of that agreement.

WM exchanges externally via II or RCI. Since it trades through II, some WM owners have traded it into DVC - in relative offseason (Jan/May/Sept, occasionally at other times) and usually in studios or 1BRs. There was even a recent studio sighted at II for Christmas week at BCV - however that is NOT the norm at all.

FF/Wyn exchanges primarily via RCI so it cannot be used to trade into DVC unless your points have a home resort at one of the very few FF's which trade via II instead.

If you like the idea of a very reasonable timeshare stay near DL at least every other year, I'd consider buying a resale package of either WM credits or FF points to provide that. Then you could reserve directly at Dolphin's Cove when you want and you could also reserve at Bonnet Creek or at the WM in Orlando when you planned a trip to FL. If you'd go to FL in the offseason and you have some flexibility in unit size, choice of DVC resort and season/schedule, then it may be possible to trade in via II once in a while.

If you'd like to use the timeshare to stay at other locations throughout the western US/Canada and Hawaii, WM may be a nice option, with many locations to choose from. FF/Wyn has more in the eastern US though it's expanding and it does include some in Hawaii too. Remember... RESALEs save a ton of money on the purchase. HTH!
