  • Rumor - Nevada

During an owners update at Tahiti Village in Las Vegas, the first week of this month, Consolidated Resorts, indicated that Disney had purchased some property there (Nevada? Vegas?) and was planning to build a water park. Anyone hear any rumors about Disney or DVC in Nevada?

IMHO Las Vegas doesn't seem like a place that Disney would buy and devleop a water park and/or timeshares. But who knows, haven't heard that rumor.

Did a little more research, Several of the people directly involved with this project did work for both Disney and Universal. There is a web site that provides some information: Las Vegas Wet : The Project and a very new media release at Las Vegas Waterpark Resort to Acquire Over 200 Acres on South Strip.
Don't know who is fronting the money (talking billions?)

There is a lot of room there in Nevada but as I just found out. The weather in winter months are not teeshirt and shorts weather. IMO putting a water park in an area that temps can fall below 30 degrees F will not be to good in the winter for a water park. Now if they plan on staying open only 8 months a year that is different. With the heat there in the summer that would work.

The "Disney is coming" seems to be a popular rumor that TS salesmen like the spew. "Disney has been coming" to Branson, MO according to the TS sales people for perhaps the last decade. Vegas would be the LAST place I'd expect Disney to put any sort of amuesment park.

Wet N Wild lost their park on the strip a couple of years ago. There had been talk about relocating that park but I've seen nothing on it.

For reliable information about what's being planned for Vegas I check Vegas Today and Tomorrow - The Near Future of Las Vegas . They report not only what's being built but what's being talked about and what's been announced but not yet under construction. They have a "dreams" page of plans that never got past the plannning stage.

Disney seems to work best next to one of its theme parks. Not as well when it isn't.

Las Vegas would be great, but it doesn't fit their brand. I doubt it's true.

When Las Vegas and their CVB were promoting as a "family destination" a few years ago, a Disney project made sense. Under the most recent mayor, however, it doesn't as he has gone back to promoting the adult nature of vegas and "Sin City."

I don't think such a venture would have the usual Disney luster and may be another EuroDisney in the making.
