Haven't tried it (no younger kids in our family right now) so I can't verify firsthand.
As of early December 2007, you could still get fries (sometimes even chicken fingers/nuggests) with kid's meals, but you do frequently have to request them.

We have gone to Disney for New Years the past three years. We love it that time of year. The parks are all decked out for the holidays and are absolutely beautiful. There are lots of special events and shows all over the parks. Crazy operating hours, for example Magic Kingdom this year was open to 4am on December 30th.

The down side is the crowds. Some of the parks will reach capacity and close during the Christmas to New Years week. It is not the time of year to go and ride al lthe rides. We went in at Holloween this year and go on Rock-n-roll four times in 45 minutes. At New Years we got there at rope drop, rode it once and the wait time was already 30 minutes when we got off.

On our New Year trips to Disney we take things slow, go early in the morning before the parks get mad crazy, utilize fast pass, plan nice family dinners out and just enjoy all of the holiday celebrations.
