  • Easy to trade into a Disney Resort????

I own a timeshare, and am thinking of upgrading the timeshare to have enough points to trade into a Disney timeshare. Is it difficult to trade into a Disney resort timeshare? (We currently do not own in Orlando). Here are my specific questions:

    1. How difficult is it to trade into a Disney resort timeshare?
    2. How much advance notice (3 months before check-in, 6 months, etc.) should we request the timeshare through Interval International?
    3. Do we have to request a specific resort, or can we give a few resort options.
    4. Do we have a good chance to get into a resort on a red date, or highly desireable date (Spring Break, Christmas) with enough request time (If we request a year in advance, for example)?

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Welcome to TS4Ms!!!!!

Sorry, I can't be more encouraging:

    1. How difficult is it to trade into a Disney resort timeshare?
Very, don't count on getting anything but a Studio in low desireability times.
    2. How much advance notice (3 months before check-in, 6 months, etc.) should we request the timeshare through Interval International?
Always request as far in advance as you can, period.
    3. Do we have to request a specific resort, or can we give a few resort options.
You can request whatever you want.
    4. Do we have a good chance to get into a resort on a red date, or highly desireable date (Spring Break, Christmas) with enough request time (If we request a year in advance, for example)?
Your chances are close to nil. Don't kid yourself.

I own a week at Polynesian Isles in Orlando, and was thinking of upgrading to the trust option with Diamond resorts, where I would not own anywhere specific. I am aware that I can't trade into Disney if I own in Orlando.

There are two ways "to upgrade"
Keep your deed but give THE Club the use every year (and buy some of their Trust points) -OR- give up your deed for the requisite number of points and buy some more.

Either way you would then have a 'corporate' account through Diamond resots and the underlying ownership of PI in Orlando would be of no consequence. While I was very negative in my post above about chances of DVC trades, your chances are as good as they'll get using DRI points!

Thanks for the info. I have no idea what I am doing here. Are you saying that since I am using DRI points, that is considered valuable, and I have a better chance in getting into a Disney resort using DRI points, than I would if I were to use, say, a week in Wisconsin, which would be considered not very vauable? How do they determine if I get my request or not? How does that work?

Concerning DRI and upgrade and II info, you need to read all the posts in this forum.

With DRI points you pay a certain amount of points depending on the rating of the resort, the size of the unit, the season. So, anything is available for the right amount of points, there is no trade power issue, the early bird gets the worm, get the request in as earlier as possible so when someone deposits you're first in line.

At certain times of year, it's quite easy. If you need a 2BR and you want prime weeks, it's quite difficult.

Disney does not deposit with II before 11 months out. So you'll be fine if you request a year ahead. By 5 months out, they're making most of their deposits. If you request later than that, you'll be less likely to get anything other than the least desirable times in studios.

Give as many as would be acceptable to you. These are the onsite at WDW, Disney options: BCV, DAK, DBW, DSS, DVO, DWL

If you only need a studio unit (sleeps 4 in a single room), then yes, you have a very good chance, assuming your deposit is strong enough. If you want a 1BR, it's harder but not impossible. If you need a 2BR (more than 4 people), it's nearly impossible during Christmas/Easter but a slim chance during Spring Break IF it's NOT the week before/after Easter.

The biggest issue is whether your deposit is strong enough to pull DVC. What would it cost you to upgrade your ownership? Is it worth it? If you want to do this repeatedly, there are inexpensive weeks out there which would do it for you that may cost less than your upgrade. Just a thought.

Disney doesn't deposit much into II for Christmas or holiday weeks at all. I"ve only seen a couple of studios for Christmas week and two for Easter week. They are rare. If you want to do this on a regular basis for holiday weeks, I'd buy a small DVC points package resale. If you stay Sunday through Thursday, you could really stretch the DVC points. Here's a link to the DVC points charts.

                  Disney Vacation Club Point Charts

Holiday weeks are very desirable in DVC and DVC members have to book at their 11 month windows to get those dates. So if you buy some DVC points for holiday bookings, buy where you want to stay the most.

DRI accounts can get into Disney as easily as other good quality resort systems, which is to say on occassion if you are very flexable as to time & resort. Holiday times are rarely available for exchange at Disney. There seems to be plenty of off season studio & 1 bedroom at Old Key West & Saratoga Springs almost all year long most often no farther than 3 or 4 months out. Other resorts are much less common and mostly studio units. The sightings boards here and at TUG are full of DVC almost every day. You must be a member of these forums to see those sightings or have a required number of postings here.

If you really want Disney and only during the most desireable times either buy Disney or rent from an owner. That will always get you exactly what & when you want and probably cost less in the end.

I think we will probably buy some resale dvc points. Holidays are not important, but April is. The cheapest points are Old Key West. Once you own in DVC, how easy is it go between DVC resorts. In other words, If I own in Key West, and am not going on a holiday, is it fairly easy to get into, say, Animal Kingdom?

It would kind of depend on when spring break falls for schools around the nation on how easy April would be. As long as it's not Easter week, I would say if you book right at the 7 month window, you should be able to switch from OKW. Keep in mind that OKW has an ending date of 2042 (unless it's one of those extended contracts). Animal Kingdom Lodge points would end in 2057 and SSR ends in 2054. If you want to pass it on to your kids, just something to keep in mind.

Lots of good info on this thread...

                          http://www.timeshareforums.com/forum...difficult.html

DRI points will get you into DVC most times for most size units as they have the required 'quality' to get the trade....if u need Holiday weeks all the time, that is a different story.
Request 12-13 months out so you are 'first in line' for your required dates/unit size.
Put all 6 DVC resorts in the request and be happy with what you get.... as u did not pay 10's of thousand's of $$$ to stay there.

It is very expensive to buy into DVC. We own at OKW and VB and have spent a hugh amount of money. You might want to rent out your other timeshare and try using the money to buy point on the rent/trade board at Disney World - The Largest Unofficial On-Line Guide to Disney World, Walt Disney World. I have rented out my points several times when we couldn't vacation. This would give you more options and is certainly a better deal than paying Disney for the rooms. Good luck with your decision. You will also find a link to the Timeshare Store and we have used them before. You can buy DVC much cheaper than thru Disney.

We're going to Disney World the first time this Christmas, we used to be in CA so Disneyland was our bread and butter. I love the idea of renting points! Is it reasonable?
