Point usually rent for about 10 dollars a point. If you go to the website I gave you, go to discussion forums, then DVC rent/trades. This site will have many who have points to rent and they can check on your wanted vacation times. I have rented out my points several times. I have also done a direct trade with a Marriott owner. That saves both parties from the trade cost. Renting is certainly cheaper than many ways to go to WDW and you can get a deluxe room for about the same price as the cheaper rooms. Good luck and email me if you want more info or need help with anything.

I just read your post again. If you really want Christmas you need to check asap. Christmas is a very hard time to get and most DVC members ask for that time frame at the 11 month window so this is cutting it close.

That's okay, this Christmas we already have reservations, it's our first trip and were staying at Pop Century, because I am saving money towards our timeshare purchase(s), hopefully it will be our only Orlando trip in a hotel room.
I will keep that site in mind for the future though!

Just to add, it IS possible to trade into DVC over the holidays. A studio was available just this weekend for both Easter and 4th of July.....and 2 bedrooms are possible, though I understand rare. I exchanged into Saratoga Springs (2bedroom) over Christmas this year (Dec 19-26). I don't expect it to happen again, but it is not impossible.

Wow - a 2 bedroom at Christmas? What did you use to trade in with?

It was my 2 bedroom Sheraton PGA (March week), but the DVC week (Dec 19 - 26) appeared online even though I had an ongoing search for it.

Saw that sighting online back in June too. Nice to see such a good match! I think that it's an oddity that was possible due to the way the calendar falls this year. Both Christmas Day and New Year's Day fall on Thursdays this year (and Fridays next year, 2009). The week of Dec 19-26 (Fri-to-Fri) includes Christmas but it also includes a few school dates so it may have slightly less demand than Christmas week in a year when Christmas is on a Monday or Tuesday and everyone is off the entire week. For the same reason, this may be doable next year if you don't mind the pre-Christmas days as part of the holiday. But in later years, it would be much more difficult, IMO. Anyway, this one is still a GREAT match! Enjoy it, Kimberly!!!

                  Thanks Lisa!!

I am new to timesharing (used to own DVC but sold it in '04), so this was actually my 1st real exchange. And, I got my PGA week for next to nothing, so I am very happy!

I guess I did have one exchange with DVC - I traded into the Royal Caribbean in 2002 with my DVC (we had extra points banked due to my pregnancy in 2000).

Disney seems to have loosened up their policy on depositing peak times into II. Christmas 2007 was the first time I had ever heard of them giving a "Premier" week (what Disney calls Christmas & Easter) to II. My belief is that DVC has embarked on a policy of trying to get more DVC deposits into II. As a DVC owner, I have really noticed that Disney seems to be encouraging owners to deposit with II. I suspect they are giving II some developer inventory, as well -- that may be where a lot of the Saratoga Springs and Old Key West weeks II are coming from.

That said, I have NEVER heard of a DVC week 52 (week after Christmas) being deposited into II, and Easter and Christmas weeks are very, very rare. I agree that a big reason Christmas was available as a trade was how the dates fall this year -- for December 19-26, most of the week falls before Christmas, which is low season in Orlando.

and Easter and Christmas weeks are very, very rare.
There are two easter studios (one the week before, one the week after) sitting there right now.

This might also be due to the way the calendar falls (Easter is late this year).

OK, so Disney just made a liar of me!

On the other hand, Disney just backed-up my statement that they are loosening up their policy on depositing holiday weeks!

We've been trying for several months to try to get something for Thanksgiving week. We knew it was a longshot when we started and the trade that we've entered does pull up Disney properties on the II site (if we had flexibility, I could exchange for the week before Thanksgiving at SSR right now).

I've pretty much resigned myself to the fact that a DVC resort isn't going to happen, but it obviously definitely won't happen if I commit to an exchange outside of Disney now. There seems to be plenty of availability at other non-Disney Orlando/Celebration/Kissimee resorts (and outside of wanting to be "on Disney Property" we're not real picky), so my question to all of you experts out there is how long should I continue to "play the game" before resigning ourselves to a non-Disney trade?

                          Thanks!

DISboards has a forum that tracks reports by DVC members for room availability by resort, unit size, and booking category. You can find the reports here:

DVC - Resort Reservation Availability - The DIS Discussion Forums - DISboards.com

                            It is very useful.

According to those reports, every size/category at every resort is booked at least one night during Thanksgiving week. So, there won't be any new deposits. You'd have to catch a cancellation---either a unit already in II that gets cancelled by someone, or a late cancellation by a DVC member for which there isn't a pending waitlist request that DVC decides to deposit.

I think if it were me, and I knew that I was going to go no matter what, I'd keep a close eye on the offsite inventory. Now that we're in flexchange, it might start going more quickly, and when it gets down to only a few acceptable alternatives, I'd grab one.

Am I missing something about the advantage of renting points? I went to one of the other points in this thread to look at how many points were needed for a week in July. Most of them were close to 300 points for a 2BDRM place. At $10.00 a point, that's roughly $3000. My family has reservations for 5 at the All-Star Music. It sleeps 6 - the same number of people as the 2BDRM TS. While I realize it's the lowest grade resort, we're paying less than $1800 for the week. That includes park tickets with the park hopper option. The room has a refrigerator and microwave - all the kitchen equipment I need, since I don't plan to cook on this vacation (I need a vacation too!). When we stay at Disney, we aren't looking for a luxury hotel room. We go there for the parks. So as long as the rooms are clean and comfortable, I'd rather have more money to spend in the parks- or on another vacation. I'm not against TS. We are using our TS for a week at Polynesian Isles the week after Disney so we can extend our time in Orlando. Again, unless I've not calculated the cost of renting points correctly, it's not the best economic choice for my family - and may not be for others as well. I guess it depends upon how people want to vacation.

then go with a studio and only do Sun-thurs (leave on Fri) for the best deal on points. AKV 1-bedroom will sleep 5 - so will the need BLT.

hoping this means that DVC might, one day in the future, let us trade to II without them.

use my other timeshare to trade into DVC.....

Thankgiving is a great time to rent points. First most of it is low season - so if you are renting sun-thurs - you get the low season sun, mon, tues, - then the high season is the same as spring break and summer but just for Wed and thurs...

it is a great time to rent.
