  • All II owners that trade into DVC

Ok - so it looks like II and DVC are parting their ways.

As an II owner who has traded into DVC for my last 4 trips I am not pleased - but dwelling on it isn't going to change things. So here what I am thinking.

    1. Looks like I have until the rest of the month to grab anymore DVC's for next year. (hum - wonder if they will go quicker now cuz everyone else will be doing this).

    2. I have an ongoing request in for the 3rd week Nov 2009. Wonder if that will match before the end of the year. Just right on the cuff of the 11 month window. (maybe I should add SSR and OKW to that search now).

    3. My Kings Creek Plantation 3BR lockoff trades with RCI. Wonder if it will be worth it to add that membership. Probably not if the 1 in 4 rule is going to hold.

    4. I have been looking for a reason to buy DVC - never did it cuz I could trade in - why spend that kind of money. Guess I will rethink that.

You could always buy HGVC, which trades through RCI, and still be able to trade into DVC. HGVC has an extremely flexible point based exchange system that's a deeded week rather than RTU with an expiration date like DVC. I suspect that HGVC is less expensive to own than DVC but, haven't ever had a reason to verify if that's true.

Guess we will have to see where and how DVC shows up in the RCI system.

Assuming that RCI doesn't rent out most of the DVC deposits. It will be interesting to see things unfold w/in the next year.

Why not just buy a WorldMark? I used WorldMark in II to get DVC all the time. And, I fully expect that I will continue to be able to use WorldMark for DVC in RCI. When it goes back to II, WorldMark will work there again.

I just bought an HGVC. I would never use it to trade. Too many other options are so much cheaper.

Personally I have never had that much interest in DVC. The one time I was offered a DVC week by an exchange company - by DAE for DVC Hilton Head - I turned it down because of the poor location where you had to drive to the beach. However, for some the Disney name seems to be magic, so I suspect many of these deposits will go straight into RCI's rental pool.

I think for folks who don't already have an established RCI option, it's wait-and-see. I don't see any evidence of DVC units getting snapped up quickly just yet---I would imagine that most casual timesharers have no idea this change is happening. It's also possible (but I think unlikely) that established ongoing DVC searches will be allowed to continue to run past the first of the year. But, now's not the time to be picky with any remaining II requests you'd like to have satisfied.

DVC will probably have better control over it's inventory and I doubt you'll see a lot of RCI rentals of DVC units.

Excatly my point. There are lower cost options than owning DVC. The only option I had knowledge of was HGVC. If Worldmark works to exchange into DVC than I'd be looking at a Worldmark ownership if I had faith and trust in Wyhndam/Worldmark.

Are they (DVC) still going to be allowed to charge exchangers $ 95 for the Disney World resorts ?

I don't know for sure since I do not own DVC, but there are other resorts in the U.S. and Europe that have mandatory cleaning fees that is paid directly to the resorts, some as high as $165. Based on that I would imagine DVC will still probably be able to collect their $95 transportation fee.

Who knows? All we have had as DVC members is an email and seen the press release. No good info yet. When upper mgmt deems it the right time we'll probably get the details. Hopefully they are farther along in this conversion than I think they are.

Seeing as how other resorts now charge similar things to RCI exchangers, I think you could take it to the bank, as it were. After all, what are the chances that the Rat would willingly give up a revenue stream---especially considering RCI probably needs DVC more than DVC needs RCI.

Hello... I hope you enjoyed your November trip. I know we did and yes were hoping to repeat it next year. I have my deposits in early since we could be shut out. I am hoping to pick up a May week as well as a Fall week. How about you?

What I don't understand is this: I just received my II 2009 Resort Directory, and it still lists DVC resorts. Why?
Life is short, live it with this awareness.

This make think DVC made a rash, quick, decision.
