Epcot is not to far from there... maybe a 15 minute ride. Yes the location of the Boardwalk is nice and I hope you see one for your dates. Enjoy your Birthday vacation!

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.
BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Here is a pretty good map.

The reason it takes awhile to get to Epcot is there are several stops around the Old Key West resort before you actually take off to go to the parks.

I've always stayed at the Boardwalk, but I was afraid to pass this up. It's for a 1/23/09 check-in, so I would be there for my b'day.
Any info on this resort would be appreciated.
The counter service place there is just ok - mostly burgers and dogs. The restaurant is ok also.....but if food is what you are looking for - it is a quick bus or boat to Downtown with plenty of option.
Heck - our paths might cross at some point!

Ut-Oh.......No matter, I'll be happy either way. How was the weather, and the crowds that week, last year?
I think I might be taking the dining plan....I made a bunch of reservations yesterday, and was surprised that I could get the restaurants I wanted, at this late date.Angela

It doesn't match up to the location of BWV - but you should be very happy with the room size. Larger than what you are use to. The resort is much more spread out than what you are use to also. It is near downtown - so the parks are a bit away. There is a nice path that you can walk to Downtown by - about a 20 minute walk......it takes you by the back of the Treehouse Villa's......there should be some activity there now.

Yeah, I figured that the location was no match for the Boardwalk. The funny thing is that last week I passed up the boardwalk, thinking we would go to St. Maarten. That hasn't showed up, and the week that I used for this Disney is expiring, so I grabbed OKW.
Yeah, maybe I'll see you there.Angela

The weather was very nice - T-Shirt/Capris/Light Jacket in the morning. Take off the jacket during the day and throw it back on at night. But, your correct - ya never know - could be 85! We went the week before Thanksgiving this year and froze!!!
I am still debating the dining plan - we have had it the last 3 times and on the cuff it looks like it is worth it - but then when I go I always loose out a bit and eat WAY too much. Need to make the decision soon.

I made the reservations because I was told that although you can add the dining plan later on, the popular restaurants would most likely be booked. I figured that I would most likely go to the same restaurant's, either way.Angela

I've been reading some reviews of OKW over at Mousesavers, and am surprised to read that some think it's necessary to rent a car when staying at OKW.
I'm disappointed to learn that, because I did not want to rent a car. I was planning on only visiting Disney, and was looking forward to using Disney transportation.
Any thoughts from those here who have stayed at OKW would be appreciated.Angela

It's a little spread out, but even the farthest locations are about a 15 minute walk from the central services, called Hospitality House. Not horrible, but not super-close. Depends on how often you need to go there, and why. You can ask to be closer, but the 6-8 buildings closest are a special booking category. Inventory from this category is rarely deposited, as it tends to be in higher demand.
If there is anyone with mobility issues in your party, you can use the bus system to get back and forth. Every outbound bus stops at Hospitality House as its last stop on the way out of the resort---so, just hop any bus at your bus stop, and you'll get there. Across the street from the HH is the Peninsular Road bus depot, and that's the first stop for any bus coming into the resort (except the DTD routes, which have an "extra" first stop at HH in addition to their last stops.) So, to get back, just walk across the street and hop on the first bus that comes by.
We normally rent a car, but I found the bus service there over Memorial Day weekend in '08 to be relatively efficient. We rarely waited more than 10 minutes for a bus to any theme park, at the most about 15. The boat to DTD was very pleasant. We are returning in Feb '09, and right now the cheapest rental car rate for our 8-day stay is $300. Unless it gets to about $250, or maybe lower, I plan to let Disney do the driving. I might take a towncar back to the airport at the end of the trip, and I'll get a cab for most resort-to-resort travel. For example, I often leave Illuminations through the "back entrance" of Epcot, and walk to the Beach Club where I hail a cab.
We're there for the better part of 8 days, so we don't need to be in a hurry, and I'm happy to use the money on other things.

So, the bus stop, to go to the parks, could be a 15 minute walk?
The boat docks at the Hospitality House. It only goes to DTD, but you can also get a boat to the Port Orleans resorts from there.
